As a psychotherapist, I help clients better understand how we carry old wounds of hurt, loss and
trauma
into the present and how those wounds affect the way we manage our lives and relationships. Life stress--marriage/divorce, parenting, vocation, illness, loss--as well as the challenges of the lifecycle itself--young adulthood, midlife, senescence--can stir up old, unprocessed turmoil. Having been trained in psychodynamic, family systems and EMDR, I strive to attentively, compassionately and actively engage with my clients so that they might free themselves of old wounds and current impasses to live more loving and whole lives.

I am a Past President of the New England Society for the Treatment of
Trauma
and Dissociation.
I see adults of all ages, seeking help in dealing with issues such as depression and difficulties in relationships. My style is active, interactive, nonjudgmental, warm, and empathetic, with a sense of humor. Mood and relational problems are sometimes related to ways that people have reacted and adapted to past traumatic experiences, which may also become a focus of therapy.

I have helped people navigate life transitions (chosen or unchosen), grief/loss, unresolved
trauma
, family dysfunction and more.
Our lives consist of welcome routines and happy memories, turning points and challenges. Sometimes it is painfully difficult. Perhaps you have experienced the loss of a dream or a loved one, or been unable to move past a traumatic event. Maybe life feels like a daily rut, void of meaning or joy. Even in the company of people who care about us we can feel alone, sad or overwhelmed. The good news is we can find connection, experience change and move through pain and struggle to a place of greater freedom and happiness.

I work with clients ages 12 though mature adulthood on issues including depression, anxiety,
trauma
, interpersonal conflict, relationship concerns, sexuality, life transitions and loss.
Welcome! I believe that the most successful therapy occurs when a strong clinical rapport is developed between therapist and client(s). To that end, I will work with you (or your teen) to create a warm, therapeutic environment where we can collaboratively determine your needs and goals, and then work together toward achieving those goals. My approach to therapy is eclectic, which means I pull from a number of different theoretical orientations. This allows me the flexibility to tailor the treatment according to your unique needs.

No individual session availability at this time. Please contact William James Interface Referral Services for referral help 617-332-3666. Our identity has a significant impact on our experience of the world and how we are treated. I find that relationships and life experiences tend to also have a major influence on our decisions and emotional well-being. Sometimes our own anxiety, depression, history, and patterns challenges trust and connection with others. I strive to help clients develop insight, find relief from suffering, develop ways to adapt, and enhance their self-advocacy.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
