I work with adult women at every stage of life who are navigating challenges both big and small. My role is to provide a supportive space where you can talk through and process whatever is causing stress or discomfort. We can focus on present-day concerns or explore childhood experiences and past circumstances that may be shaping who you are today. I work best with women who are willing to lower their guard, remain open to new perspectives, and explore patterns that may be contributing to current struggles.

I’ve spent most of my career as a social worker in the field of child welfare, mostly working with children and families in a variety of ways. I’ve learned through these experiences, to struggle is human and to get stuck sometimes is universal. At times, when the emotional distress is such that it interferes with your functioning, goals, relationships and living a satisfying life, therapy can help.

Helping Kids, Teens, and Young Adults Find the Light in the Darkness; Healing Through Play, Art, and Connection. Does your child or teen seem “stuck” in expressing their “big feelings” or seem to be in a cycle of sadness, irritability, or inattention? Does your teen begin to shut down, or are you a young adult feeling overwhelmed by the pressures of life? Watching someone, or struggling with trauma, depression, anxiety, or thoughts of self-harm can feel overwhelming and frightening. Mental health can make anyone feel stuck and alone, but you are not alone in this, and there is a way back to feeling like yourself again.

I am ready to meet clients where they are, wherever they are in their journey. They may come to therapy feeling stuck, unheard, lost, or simply knowing they want something to change. They might not know where to start, or they may think they know exactly what their path should be. Either way, I’m here for it. Clients don’t have to feel confident about starting therapy—they may even feel unsure or ambivalent. They don’t need to have all the answers or know what they want yet. We can explore it together, because everyone deserves to feel heard.

Steps to feeling better includes engaging in a process of self-discovery, learning and growing. Negative patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving are changeable. Some patterns are counter intuitive to living a healthy and happy life. I enjoy guiding clients in their own journey of self-discovery, via identifying barriers and opportunities in reaching personal goals. The therapeutic process is not always a linear path, there are twists and turns. However, there are evidenced-based strategies that can help you. My goal is to present them to you, show you how to use them until one or several provide meaningful results.

My name is Michelle, and I have over 30 years experience in teaching, counseling, and behavior analysis. I am also a mom of two grown boys. I have "walked the walk" in raising my oldest son (now 23) with learning, behavioral, and social challenges. My passion is working with families who are struggling with challenging behaviors at home with their child, teen, or young adult. I have heard from many parents that their child "runs the show" at home. I offer in-home observations and then write a behavioral report with feedback and recommendations for parents. Ongoing parent coaching is also available.

My clients are usually children with challenging behavior because of their temperament or diagnosis, but I also work with kids whose parents need help solving an isolated behavioral problem. Issues might include: emotional regulation, physical aggression, anxiety, tantrums, potty training, sleeping in their own bed at night, and following directions. Typical diagnoses include ADHD or ADD, anxiety, autism, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. I also work with clients of all ages who have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). My goal is to use the most effective therapeutic approach that is maximally efficient.

I take a compassionate, collaborative approach to therapy—one that sees the person, not the problem. Rather than focusing on what’s “wrong,” I explore the internal and external factors that may be contributing to current challenges. My work is grounded in curiosity and connection, inviting clients to reflect on how their past and current experiences, including childhood, family dynamics, societal systems, environment, relationships and current stressors, shape their emotional and behavioral patterns. I believe meaningful therapy happens when there is a willingness to explore, reflect, and move toward change.

Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) Therapists
Who is ABA therapy for?
ABA therapy is most widely applied to teach basic behavioral, communication, and social skills to children with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disorders. It may also be used to help people undergoing rehabilitation following brain injury. It uses reward-based learning techniques to impart essential life skills. ABA is also used in the treatment of some other conditions. One is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) , to help children overcome difficulties with concentration and controlling impulsive behaviors. For people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, it is sometimes used to help them overcome compulsive behavior. ABA therapy is also sometimes used in cases of PTSD, to help people turn to positive behaviours when they have experiences that trigger distressing memories.

Why do people need ABA?
Children with autism and other developmental disorders need ABA therapy as a way to learn how to communicate and engage with others, improve their general ability to function and lead fulfilling lives, and diminish dangerous behaviors. The techniques used in ABA therapy are based on established principles of learning, and positive reinforcement—supplying earned rewards—is an important strategy for motivating positive behaviour change.

What happens in ABA therapy?
The first thing that happens in ABA therapy is an evaluation of the child in service of developing a treatment plan. The therapist meets with the child’s parent(s) in order to learn about the family and the child, assesses the child’s behavior and ability level, and then creates a plan tailored to the specific needs of that person. Once the treatment goals are established, the skills to be learned are broken down into small, component steps. Treatment sessions focus on learning and practicing each step, and furnishing meaningful rewards as steps are learned, behaviors are spontaneously implemented, and goals are accomplished. ABA therapists also train caregivers and families so that behavioral progress occurs beyond the clinical setting.

What problems does ABA therapy treat?
One of the primary goals of ABA therapy is to decrease the outbursts and other nonproductive behaviors of children with autism. At the same time, ABA aims to remedy language deficits and help such children learn how to communicate successfully. ABA therapy helps children learn age-appropriate social skills and gain skills, such as attention and focus, that are necessary for school.
