I work exclusively with adults (21+) as they challenge the ebbs and flows of anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, chronic illness, coupling relationships, grief and life transitions.
I understand that treatment interventions are not one size fits all and will often use multiple within a session. Some of the treatment modalities I use include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gottman Method, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Reality Therapy (RT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Structural Family Therapy (SFT).

My ideal client is a young adult who is working on getting their life together. They are having a difficult time controlling their emotions and suffers with anxiety. Their goals are to get and keep a job, work on a career, and be more responsible. They are realizing that it is time to get it together. They are interested in learning coping skills and working on past traumatic events that they believe to be in the way of learning new ways. I will work with my clients to unfold what is brought into the room and set the pace that feels most supportive to them—together, creating a safe and supportive space as we address needs and goals.

You feel anxious and it’s hard to shut your brain off. People tell you to relax, but it’s not that easy. Your life is going well, but there’s always a new worry on the horizon. You’ve worked hard to get where you are, but it’s hard to sit back and enjoy it. Your standards for yourself feel too high. You tend to doubt yourself and your abilities and look to other people to reassure you. You invest a lot of time and energy into how other people feel, but end up in one-sided relationships. It’s hard to take up space, feel confident, and speak your truth. I help anxious overachievers rest, relax, and find balance in their busy lives.

Relationship distress often shows up alongside anxiety and ADHD.
From client: What sets Cat apart is that she never takes sides, but she also never lets us off the hook. She's warm and compassionate, but she's also honest in a way that's rare. She helped us understand each other's attachment styles, unpack old wounds we'd both been bringing into our fights without realizing it, and gave us actual tools we use every single week. Six months ago I wasn't sure our marriage would survive. Now I can't imagine not having done this work.

I work with clients how may be learning how to manage ADHD symptoms or struggling with depression or navigating complex family dynamics.
Accepting new clients. Are you feeling anxious or down? Are you unsure about the future of a relationship, or wondering why you find yourself repeating the same patterns and behaviors? Therapy is a collaborative process of self-discovery and personal growth. It takes a lot to reach out to a complete stranger and ask for help and you should feel proud you are considering taking this first step. I like to see my clients laugh, know what makes them happy and see them learn more about themselves through the process of therapy.

I also provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for ADHD & ADD, as well as other mental health disorders.
It can be hard to find someone you can trust to talk to about the hard stuff in life. Sometimes it feels like others don’t understand or the things you’ve been doing just aren’t working anymore. When life gets lifey, having a positive support and implementing new strategies can help you move through stressful times. I’ve spent my career helping those who have been in difficult places. I’m reminded of the Japanese art of Kintsugi which mends broken pottery with gold to make the refinished item beautiful and more resilient. You are not broken. With some changes you will be a more radiant and stronger version of yourself.

Many college and high school students, and adults are struggling with challenges related to managing ADHD symptoms.
ADHD is still very misunderstood not only by society, but often by those working closest to individuals with ADHD; professors, teachers and doctors. I hope to help bridge this gap by educating and empowering my clients, so that they will be more confident advocates for themselves. This in turn will help educate those who misunderstand.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
