You’ve probably spent a lot of time holding it together, managing anxiety, trying to fix relationships, or carrying guilt and shame around sexuality or choices you don’t fully understand. My clients often come to me when life feels complicated: attachment wounds that never healed, emotional distance that keeps relationships stuck, or behaviors that bring regret instead of relief. Some are parents trying to reach a child who feels unreachable; others are adults trying to rebuild trust with themselves or someone they love.

I provide therapy for adults of all genders struggling with traumatic stress symptoms, anxiety, depression, and all aspects of adjustment to life changes, as well as adolescent males with ADHD, oppositional defiance disorder, or other risky behavior-related conditions. For adolescents with ODD or ADHD, I have been particularly effective in treating those who have not responded to typical behavior-based treatments. I use a warm, compassionate, and patient approach with all my clients.

I've worked in schools for the last twenty-three years, helping an array of children and teens experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, as well as social, emotional, and academic challenges. I believe that young people are all amazing in their own ways. Children benefit from having someone in their corner unconditionally to help develop skills and strategies in an effort to become increasingly confident, independent, and successful both in and out of school. I value communication with parents to best help each client. I approach all of my clients in a warm and compassionate manner in an effort to develop a strong connection.

Each of us has felt judged, marginalized, fearful, hopeless, and confused. During these times, it can be difficult to reach out, to ask for help, and to trust. Sometimes we feel unsafe. When we experience these challenges, it can be so hard to confront these difficult aspects of ourselves. My strength is to provide you with understanding and compassion. My strength is to help you feel safe, so you can move beyond some of the inner narratives that hold you back. In our first session together, we will review why you have come to therapy and get started on the identification of the issues we can collaborate on together.

You’ve been holding it all together—at work, at home, for everyone else—but inside, it’s exhausting. You’re anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that used to work but don’t anymore. You want clarity, not chaos. You’re the one others count on—but who supports you? Therapy can help you reconnect with the version of yourself that feels calm, capable, and in control again.

Hi, I’m Kevin Orpurt. I am an LCSW working with clients in Massachusetts via telehealth. I have a broad base of experience, but I work primarily with adolescents and adults and specialize in anxiety, depression, transition issues and grief, using a solution focused approach grounded in CBT and Mindfulness. I also have extensive experience working with athletes and those working in athletic settings. While I have a causal, nonjudgmental approach to therapy, I also believe people often need additional tools in their lives.

My ideal clients are individuals, couples, and families who feel stuck in patterns of disconnection, frustration, or self-doubt. They may notice recurring conflicts, emotional distance, or the weight of unspoken pain within their relationships. Others may be navigating faith transitions, spiritual questions, or the lingering impact of religious or church trauma. Many of the people I work with long for deeper understanding, connection, and peace within themselves and with those they love. Above all, they are ready to slow down, be heard, and begin the process of change with curiosity and compassion.

My work focuses on life transitions, identity development and navigating the challenges associated with change. I provide a non-judgmental, goal-oriented environment for you to highlight and cultivate your best self. Or, in the words of Dolly Parton: "Find out who you are, and do it on purpose." I value humor, humility, and building on your existing strengths to help achieve your goals. My work is informed by a strong belief that our wellbeing is impacted by the environments within which we exist. I strive to offer care that is attentive to the diverse identities and experiences that influence how we move through the world.

How will I - a California trained LMFT – be more effective for you? Unlike many Massachusetts counselors based in the “medical model” I don’t treat symptoms, I treat systems. I’ll work with you and partners/spouses or family members, if you choose to include them, to identify not "What’s wrong with me?” but rather, “How'd I get here?” We’re all products of our childhood. I'll work with you to identify and challenge the faulty agreements forced upon you before you could defend yourself against them, co-discover alternate viewpoints about yourself and the world and then enact these new agreements to create a new life.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
