I work with couples, individuals, and families to explore the issues that prevent them from effectively caring for each other and themselves. I also help clients build authentic and respectful communication skills, and set healthy boundaries in relationships. I use creativity and courage to help clients connect while also increasing individual safety.

I have been an independent licensed clinical social worker since 2000, and prior to that was a home-based family counselor. I view my role as helping the person clarify troubling life experiences, past and present, and to understand their responses to those experiences. These may include: difficult relationships and families, unresolvable ambiguity; agonies of adolescence; substance and alcohol abuse, or legacies of trauma and existential dilemmas. I believe each person contains the seeds of their own solution and I work to nurture that individual solution. This happens in a relationship where it becomes safe to "say anything."

You may be feeling overwhelmed by stress and anxiety - whether it’s from external demands or internal struggles. Maybe it's social anxiety, "a life transition," or healing from trauma. Or maybe it's something more general, like you want to feel more "in control" of your emotions…and your life. I can help. Together, we’ll uncover the roots of your challenges, empowering you to move forward - with skill and confidence. I use “treatments that work” (CBT, DBT, mindfulness, etc). But we’ll find what works for YOU. Lastly, I don’t just want you to just “feel better.” I want you to live your best life. I'm looking forward to meeting you!

Are you a new parent or caregiver? Are you experiencing surprising new challenges as your family grows? This transition is one of the most impactful and meaningful experiences you will have. It can be difficult and scary to explore thoughts, feelings and behaviors that do not always align with this new identity.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
