I use a blend of techniques including psychodynamic therapy,
family
systems, CBT, and mindfulness based stress reduction.
Life can present challenges that can become overwhelming and cause emotional unrest. As a result, our relationships, functioning level, and emotional well being can be significantly affected. In part, this is what it means to be human, engaged in life that is often complex and always changing. As a therapist for over 25 years, I have had the privilege of helping clients overcome such challenges, gain insight and self awareness, become unstuck and change thought patterns and behaviors that no longer serve them.

Now accepting United Health Care, Always Health, and Health New England insurance. When struggling with your emotional health, it is hard to be happy. There are many aspects of our lives that define our emotional connectedness to others and our own happiness. When we experience anxiety, depression, anger, and/or grief, we suffer. Our suffering touches all parts of our life, both personal and professional. Sometimes, things just aren’t right. When you feel unhealthy, due to a difficult relationship or your behaviors are hurtful to yourself or others, life can be difficult.

Therapeutic alliance and connection are essential for couples and
family therapy
to be successful. My strengths lie in joining with couples and families to guide them to hope, reconnection and renewed understanding. I like to jump into the spaces between partners and
family
members to explore things from mutual vantage points. I'm continually amazed and humbled by people's capacity to grow when given the right support, tools and incentives for positive change in their lives.

The stress of daily life can affect us in different areas; career, financial, relationship and
family
issues. As time passes, if we are not mindful of behaviors, things can fester increasing symptoms of anxiety, and depression. My approach is to unravel false belief systems, with either solution focused, and at the Client's choice, a psycho-dynamic, psychotherapy approach. Sometimes we need to look at the past. I believe it is acceptable to focus on present day solutions. Overwhelming feelings can be a detour to our true authentic selves. Counseling is to effectively set, and achieve, goals to be our true, unique, authentic selves.

I also believe in treating the whole
family
system, when possible, and feel that the best way to ensure sustainable change is to support and strengthen more than just the individual.
I've been a mental health professional for 25 years and have spent that time challenging and supporting teens, adults, couples and families facing a myriad of mental health, addiction and life-transition related issues. I have extensive experience working with local school professionals and also thoroughly enjoy working directly with teens and young adults around life-choices, healthy relationships and transition-related challenges as they venture into adulthood. Finally, I provide couples and families support to aid in navigating the demands of marriage, relationships, divorce, parenting and other life stressors.

I believe in a
family
systems approach to therapy and deem troubles in families as a problem in the relational context of the
family
system, rather than a problem with one person.
Not Currently Accepting Clients. I believe in the inherent value of each and every individual who chooses to seek out therapy and especially in the acceptance of those populations who have historically been marginalized or mistreated. I help individuals find understanding in who they are and to find hope for their future. Life can be very difficult at times and especially when we experience trauma, anxiety and depression. If you are looking for a better way to handle stress at work or with your
family
, it is imperative to find someone with the right training and experience.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological evaluation. Most referrals reflect concerns around life-long problems as well as recent changes in functioning that concern friends and
family
. Most of the time, patients and their families/supports are looking for empathy and clarification around real-world problems. This in-depth clarification allows for real-world treatment recommendations that can make a difference. Lengths are taken to minimize time in office. These include telephone and video interviews as well as electronically submitted forms and fact sheets.

I primarily work with aging and/or disabled adults and caregivers coping with emotional and health care related challenges. Much of my work with clients focuses on adjustment difficulty related to declining health and diminished functional independence. Clients who are caregivers often struggle with managing career and
family
caregiving roles and also the needed transitions that can emerge in the latter half of life.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
