and parent child psychotherapy.
Therapy is a time to appreciate and develop patterns that are healthy and fulfilling, instead of just focusing on what's going wrong. I work towards establishing a trusting relationship where together we can collaboratively create goals that address your needs. We work together to address symptoms in a way that sustains long term change. I integrate tailored treatment to you so that you do not experience a “cookie cutter” approach.

I feel strongly that people have within them the power to heal and grow. This often needs some support and guidance but people have these strengths with in them. Faith can be an important part of healing for some and not for others. I incorporate this into the counseling setting as much or as little as the client desires. Whether healing from trauma, loss, or relationship issues, I believe that there are different treatment modalities that can work to heal these issues. There is joy and peace for everyone once these issues have been resolved. I encourage everyone to get back to the freedom in life they were intense to have.

My approach with clients recognizes that most people are looking for tangible help, don't have a lot of time between work and family, and want to feel like they are moving toward a better understanding of solutions to address their difficulties. My work with clients acknowledges these issues. I take a very active role in counseling to explore the options with my clients, provide new knowlege of issues where relevant, and help an individual to reach their potential. Issues related to marital/partner, parenting /child, family, work, school, stress, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse are all areas I work with.

Being a parent is HARD. WORK. But, you see nothing but perfect lives on Instagram. Earth-tone dressed kids in pumpkin patches, professionally decorated homes, international family vacations. Excuse me, what? You were already struggling, but now you feel downright crazy that this isn't you. You're not sure how you're supposed to feel, but you do know the demands are more than ever. Work, appointments, sicknesses, school, sports, activities, and seeing family and friends. You're drowning in stress, but you won't say it because you feel guilty for not being happy about having the life most people want. You are not alone. I promise you.

I'm glad you're here! I have openings for Telehealth counseling! We all face challenges and unfortunately, the expectation is - don't talk about it, avoid and distract from the fears and uncomfortable emotions that are triggered. If you're a parent or caregiver, that speaks to another layer of difficulty in coping with your own triggers, as well as what your child or other family member(s) may be struggling with! You are not alone and we are not meant to do life alone. Contact me to receive support to address issues related to ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Parenting challenges, Relationship Issues, Self-Harm & related safety concerns.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
