You might be struggling with communication loops that lead nowhere, untangling years of religious shame, or navigating the unique nuances of Poly/ENM and LGBTQ+ relationships.
I try to meet folks where they are, and use humor and empowerment in my approach. I find that while many people have had some semblance of sex education, most have never had pleasure education; I help fill the gaps in your intimacy so you know what feels good in your body and how to communicate what you need to others. Let's release your anxiety and shame.

Harm Reduction is a grassroots movement that started among people who were at risk for HIV and HepC ( queer people, people who use drugs, sex workers).
I have expertise working with: people who use drugs (problematic and non-problematic), people who love people who use drugs, queer people ( LGBTQ+), people living with HIV, non-monogamous people, and other helping professionals. I am level 2 trained in AEDP and also incorporate parts work (IFS), MI, and ACT into my practice.

Sub-specialties include the LGBTQ and helping professionals.
You're carrying a lot. I see you. Maybe you're feeling anxious all the time, and you're not even sure why. Maybe past trauma still echoes in the quiet moments. Maybe you're doing everything you can and still feel like it's not enough. You’re craving steadiness in your nervous system, trust in your own voice, and a path forward that feels possible. Traditional talk therapy may not have been effective, and you're looking to explore deeper body/brain based work like EMDR or Brainspotting. You’re looking to feel wholeness, and you deserve support that meets you there. A calm, grounded approach that doesn’t rush your process.

About Louisa Gould, LICSW: People seem to find me when they are supposed to in life. Clients who come to see me, often feel as though they need support with something in life. Mainly I find that most of us experience some sort of interruption in our lives. These interruptions can be addictions, losses, toxic relationships, difficult decisions, traumatic situations or can take many other shapes and forms throughout life. It is my belief that it is through these interruptions, that people often seek counseling and support. No one should have to travel through life alone.

It takes a lot of courage to seek out a therapist, essentially a complete stranger, to talk to about your most intimate feelings and dilemmas. Allow me to help along your life's journey, to aid in the discovery of your strengths, and move forward in the next step of growth and mental wellbeing. I believe it is important to meet clients where they are at in their self-discovery by utilizing a positive, non-judgmental approach to support the person's individual goals. Sometimes all it takes is a gentle listener to assist in the next step of change in viability.

Whether you are struggling with a loss, working through a life transition, challenged in a relationship, or wanting to change a pattern, it can be useful to have a compassionate, honest therapist helping you navigate. Life can be hard but with the right support, nothing is impossible. At different times in life we all become terrified, triggered, overwhelmed, or just realize things are not working. These times of crisis provide opportunities to look at things differently and make new, more grounded choices. I love this work and am comfortable with anything that might come up.

LGBTQ+ Therapists
Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?
Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?
Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?
While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
