I believe that the quality of the client-therapist relationship is central to meaningful change and growth in therapy. Working together, we will create a respectful and collaborative space to address what troubles you. People come to me around many issues, including depression and sadness, anxiety, interpersonal conflict and disappointment, life transitions, sexual and gender identity, pregnancy and parenting, grief and loss, and trauma. I work primarily from a psychodynamic (insight-oriented) perspective but draw from skills-based models depending on individual needs or preferences.

Mental health issues are as unique as the person going through them. It can be frustrating or frightening when no cookie cutter treatment works for everyone. I believe that we often receive oppressive and harmful messages that can lead to mistaken beliefs about ourselves and get in the way of achieving a meaningful and fulfilling existence. If you feel lost or overwhelmed by the weight of the world, I can support you with deconstructing damaging thoughts, emotions and experiences to find empowerment in yourself and move forward as the expert in your life. I strive to make therapy an insightful and uplifting experience for all.

You know yourself better than anyone else: your struggles, dreams, desires, goals, feelings, relationships. As a therapist, I help people understand their experiences in a safe and empathic space that promotes growth, healing, and the creative exploration of all areas of life. If you are feeling overwhelmed, lost, sad or anxious, talking together with a professional does help. Are you in an unfulfilling relationship where you feel misunderstood, criticized, estranged or abused? Or maybe you have doubts or worries about yourself as a person, feel like you're not a good enough son or daughter, partner or parent.

Trauma is often narrowly associated with experiences of overt violence; I work with a much broader understanding. Trauma can emerge from experiences that negatively impact and interfere with daily functioning, and I believe everyone deserves opportunities to heal from visible and invisible wounds. Utilizing an intensive trauma therapy model, I help clients rebuild from life’s most vulnerable moments. I center and honor my clients’ experiential knowledge and, as a mixed-race therapist, recognize the value of creating a safe, non-judgmental space for people who carry intersecting marginalized identities.

I'm Chloe, a compassionate and dedicated mental health therapist, here to help you navigate life's challenges. My approach to therapy is all about meeting you where you are and tailoring our sessions to fit your unique needs. I believe a comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing grows there. I am here to support you as you step out of that comfort zone and work towards positive change. Motivational interviewing is used to promote insight and self awareness. I draw from a psychodynamic perspective, how your past influences your present, and also use techniques like Internal Family Systems, CBT, and attachment theory.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
