I am looking forward to working with clients who are self-aware or interested in learning how to be more open to building up their self-interest. I'm happy to help clients recognize their struggles and the importance of seeking support. I am seeking clients who are motivated to improve their lives and understand that therapy and a willingness to change can lead to growth and improvement in their mental health. With these foundations in place, we can develop clear goals centered around reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health issues.

Finding the right "fit" for therapy is one of the most important tasks for a client. Therapy that is grounded in a positive therapeutic relationship works. I strive to help build this type of relationship with clients.

At certain stages in our experience, we come to outgrow previously assigned narratives which no longer make sense for whom we are, where we are going, or who we desire to be. Being stuck and not being able to shed those past narratives, can lead to an emotional distress which we label to be symptoms. I see your desire to make a change as the characteristic of an emotionally healthy individual. I believe each of us is equipped with the intrinsic knowledge to achieve positive and sustainable growth in our lives.

Life can be hard, and we all have times that we feel stuck. I work in a Solution-Focused way, which means that I focus on exploring with you what's at the root of what you're wanting, finding what uniquely works to help you progress towards it, and less about what's been keeping you stuck.

As a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, I have been practicing in Haverhill as a Clinical Therapist since 2008, giving me the opportunity of incorporating my 36 years of experience in the Hu man Services profession, addressing relationship difficulties, coping skill development, and sobriety maintenance challenges.
My approach to the therapeutic process is to help others find the unique talents and gifts they already possess within themselves. From this framework, I employ a diverse approach, utilizing research-proven methods including: a strengths-based perspective, a client-centered approach, and cognitive-behavioral techniques, serving a multi-cultural and wide range of socio-economic backgrounds. By introducing you to these systems, we as a team can then begin work on overcoming such obstacles as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma, anger management problems, substance abuse struggles, as well as a myriad of other hurdles.

Clients will benefit from a better comprehension of why they think, feel and interact in the manner they do.
Hello. I offer 25 years experience working collaboratively with people struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues and addiction problems (please have at least 30 days clean and involved in recovery.) Therapy provided is tailored to client needs. Some clients benefit from structure, whereas others benefit more from a safe, supportive place to process problems with a therapist trained as an effective, reflective, listener. I prefer working with older teens and adults. Specialized training in trauma and PTSD.

The individuals that I treat most often have varying levels of need and are at different stages in their own therapeutic process. For this reason, I am very person-centered and tailor treatment to each individual's particular needs. I work with all ages but most often with children, adolescents, and young adults. The majority of individuals that I see struggle with anxiety, depression, anger, eating disorders, self-injury, school problems, and ADHD. However, I also have advanced training in working with individuals with chronic mental health issues and personality disorders.

Many people who come to see me have frequently had disappointing experiences with therapists in the past "We just didn't click" or "all they did was nod their heads and didn't say much". When you run out of ways to make change and don't know how to do it, the last thing you need to feel in therapy is alone. Change takes energy, action, hard work and sometimes the support and guidance of someone to help you make it!

Our broad goal––of course––is “the end of unnecessary suffering.” Sound about right? While we all strive for this, I specialize in helping folks with a very-unique kind of suffering: OCD. I can tell you that few people understand the pain and complexity of OCD—(even most therapists). I will listen intently to your unique story. Just know that I can introduce you to an arsenal of tools that can help: mindfulness, ERP (exposure and response prevention) and on and on. Yes, thoughts can be “sticky.” But––with hard work––if (or when) those thoughts come back around…they can be as quiet & as harmless as a yellow post-it.

These treatments can help manage many symptoms of ADHD, but they don't cure it.
Mental Health and Wellness! Are you struggling with ADHD symptoms; diagnosed, un managed, or untreated? Do you know about RSD (Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria) and how it relates to ADHD? Do you have depression or trauma related to you relationships or family. Are you using drugs and alcohol to manage anxiety and depression, or trauma? During our initial sessions, we will delve deeply into the issues at hand, and collaborate to create a plan for addressing them in a way that helps you get your life back. Most of my clients see a gradual lifting of symptoms within the first month and sustained improvement thereafter.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
