There's a sense of disconnection leading you to act in ways that feel inauthentic. Relationships drain all of your energy and you've noticed this pattern repeating itself. You give so much to others only to realize that they’re not emotionally available for you. You're often dismissed and never seem to be anyone's priority. When you think about "healthy relationships" you know it's something you want but you're not really sure what it means or how to get there.

Navigating life can be challenging. It's natural to need help at times, and joining with another person in a therapeutic alliance can be just what you need to gain more insight, refocus, and find more balance to live life more joyfully. My intention in psychotherapy is to guide individuals to a clearer understanding of their mental and emotional terrain, how their thoughts and feelings may influence their overall sense of well-being, and to explore new perspectives that may benefit them.

May and June openings! My practice is dedicated to helping mature women whose lives have been interrupted by trauma. Big Trauma or little trauma, the symptoms are very real. Difficulty sleeping? Difficulty concentrating? Difficulty remembering things? Do you feel like you are on "high alert" all the time? Do you have difficulty regulating your emotions in real time? The truth about trauma is that it lives in our bodies long after we have experienced the event(s). Talk therapy alone is not enough. Let's work together to reset your nervous system. Learn techniques that will help you manage your symptoms so you can feel better soon!

I am trained in EMDR and DBT, and utilize motivational interviewing, CBT, narrative therapy, and solution-focused therapy.
My career started as a volunteer at a suicide prevention lifeline providing support for individuals in distress, and I learned that being present for people in their most vulnerable times of need is one of the most humbling yet fulfilling services I could provide. I have also worked in residential care, university, and hospital settings. I am here to guide clients who are ready to produce dynamic change in their lives. I work with clients experiencing various challenges including trauma, challenging relationships, and life transitions to name a few, and how these factors affected the client and family systems.

As we begin our journey, I will believe you will find a warm and welcoming environment laced with humor, and, above all, respect for your particular narrative .
Selecting a therapist can be a daunting task, especially if you are experiencing emotional pain and/or navigating a life crisis. Perhaps you are feeling "stuck" and just don't know where to turn. I am a licensed clinical social worker practicing for over thirty years in a variety of community based and education settings before focusing on my private practice. I work with adolescents, young adults, adults, and older individuals.

Thank you! - - - - - - - - - - Connecting with our past and present experiences is an important part to understanding how this has shaped us into who we are today. It can help aid in positive growth and change. To accomplish this, I believe we must take a wholesome approach to therapeutic techniques. By doing so, it allows integration of different psychotherapy orientations, such as mindfulness practices, cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, DBT and breathing/breath-work when appropriate, to best support your needs.

My main hope for therapy is to support humans who are 16 years and older as they navigate the complex world of human emotion, mental health, and relationships. A good life can be hard, complicated, and challenging while a difficult life can still be rewarding, fulfilling, and well-lived. I seek to join with those who are struggling with that complexity to help them achieve the goals they have for themselves, to help them cope with inherent disappointments, losses, and stressors, and feel the joy of personal growth.. I tend to integrate a mix of Solution-Focused, CBT, Narrative , Trauma-Informed Care, and Strengths-Based strategies.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
