My specific areas of interest include anxiety, depression, loss and grief , parenting difficulties, relationship difficulties, and role/life transitions.
We all face difficult challenges in life that can lead to increased stress, decreased functioning, emotional pain, ineffective coping strategies, and interpersonal struggles. Engagement in therapy can provide a safe space to gain the skills and support needed to manage these difficulties and can help us grow into the best version of ourselves. I believe that therapy works to aid in the healing process because we are wired for social connection and thrive when we are able to be vulnerable and feel understood/accepted.

Counseling and Psychotherapy are wonderful tools to help you live the life that you want. I believe that we are spiritual beings on a human journey of awakening. Whether one is experiencing anxiety, depression, medical issues, grief , or relationship issues, it can be helpful to work with the body, mind, and spirit. My trainging in traditional and complementary therapies enriches the experience of each. I have been a Psychotherapist on the South Shore since 2000 and have worked as a Hospice Social Worker. I have been practicing Reiki and Energy Work since the mid 1990's.

Other interests of equal importance is assisting clients negotiate life transitions, including managing grief , loss of health, relationships, loss of independence while maintaining dignity and self-determination with supportive guidance in a loving, caring, safe environment.
My focus is providing an opportunity to learn how to increase attention and awareness of thoughts, feelings, leading to behaviors that are not serving us; motivating shifts in thinking in order to respond rather than react. What is most satisfying to me in this work is once individuals or couples gain the awareness of how childhood experiences affect communication and reactivity, they are open to learning skills which enable them to change their communication patterns that formerly were feeding conflict and negativity, leading to empathy, compassion, deeper understanding and willingness to find resolution.

Hello; thanks for viewing my profile. Everyone has an interesting story to tell of how they got to where they are now. Therapy can help change the plot and perhaps develop new chapters. I have expertise working with people with medical conditions as well as with depression and anxiety. I treat couples and individuals ranging from 18 years through the lifespan.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
