My focus is providing an opportunity to learn how to increase attention and awareness of thoughts, feelings, leading to behaviors that are not serving us; motivating shifts in thinking in order to respond rather than react. What is most satisfying to me in this work is once individuals or couples gain the awareness of how childhood experiences affect communication and reactivity, they are open to learning skills which enable them to change their communication patterns that formerly were feeding conflict and negativity, leading to empathy, compassion, deeper understanding and willingness to find resolution.

Effective treatment for mental health and addiction problems will take place when a treatment partnership based on respect and honesty is developed with the client. Effective treatment is strength based in nature; recognizing that all people possess resources for change and that change is possible when these resources are utilized. Solution focused therapy is generally the most effective method of treatment. I will work with a client to identify a problem and then formulate a treatment plan that will suit their specific needs. I specialize in Addictions, Trauma, PTSD, and Mental Wellness and use Hypnosis effectively. Call me

I believe in the inherent worth of every person and that part of being human is experiencing struggles, setbacks, and difficulties. At times we are able to navigate these challenges on our own but other times we need additional support to gain new skills, be reminded of the strength we already have, and most importantly have a nonjudgmental space to talk things through. I have over 12 years of experience in the mental health and substance use disorder fields. My areas of clinical experience include working with adults with concerns of anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and substance use disorders.

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
