I work with clients experiencing relationship issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and marriage and family concerns. I work from an interpersonal, attachment-based, and systemic perspective, informed by body awareness and mindfulness practices. In the container of a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship, we will build awareness of your process--physical, mental, emotional, and interpersonal--as it unfolds both in and out of session. This combination of connection and awareness, over time, can transform the way you relate to yourself, to others, and to the wider world.

**CURRENTLY FULL** In practicing social work, I have maintained a commitment to these driving ideas - “if not us, then who?” “if not now, then when?” We are the "experts" that others look to for improving lives and decreasing the impact and burden of adverse events and circumstances. No therapist has a magic wand, but together we can explore and reshape the things that hold you back. If you commit to treatment with me, you can expect to build skills in distress tolerance, expand your emotional awareness and build your protective factors (social supports, coping skills, sense of purpose, self esteem and healthy thinking).

My mission is to create a healing space for you to feel safe and understood. I specialize in helping people recover from trauma, eating and body image issues, addiction, anxiety, and depression. Together we make sense of seemingly illogical or out of proportion reactions and responses. I believe even the most challenging parts of our personalities are creative adaptations developed to help us survive, and that true healing involves honoring these parts of ourselves, while working to find beneficial pathways in the present.

*I am not able to accept new clients at this time.* By listening deeply, providing insight, coaching and support we collaborate to move past self-defeating patterns that interfere with your living well. As a seasoned psychotherapist and life coach with 30 years experience I believe in each person's singular life path and inherent capacity to heal and grow. Drawing on mindfulness and body-based wisdom we focus your strengths to transform fear into hope, confusion into direction. Life transitions can often cause us to feel overwhelmed. While people close to us may be supportive, we may not always feel able to share with them our doubts and discomfort. Having an empathic therapist who can objectively help us navigate the journey is invaluable. My work with clients who have struggled with depression and anxiety, survived trauma or grief, or experience the world as LGBTQ+ identified people is strengths-based, person-centered, and results-oriented.

After many years of private psychotherapy practice in Orlando, Fl. I have moved my practice to beautiful Western Mass to be near family. I am accepting referrals at my Northampton location for individuals, couples and families interested in healing, learning and growth. I also offer teaching/therapy Intensives for couples, which are ideal for relationships which are struggling or strong. My philosophy about therapy and life is that we all have the capacity to reach our potential and that sometimes we need help in the form of therapy or coaching or support to assist us in this endeavor.

Therapy can be a space for reflecting on patterns in one’s life in order to contextualize both the past and the present. I am interested in joining with clients through processes of change that involve working toward accepting the parts of self that feel harder to allow in. I believe that cultivating self-acceptance often helps us to create not only an increased ability to hold our internal experiences with care and nuance but also more space for our external world and relationships with others.

Struggling with anxiety about a stressful world and uncertain future? There’s a voice in your head that is desperate to do it all perfectly, to stay four steps ahead, not make any mistakes. You have a persistent feeling of "not good enough" that follows you from work to relationships to family. Your mind races with thoughts about what you could have done better or how you disappointed someone. You feel paralyzed, self-critical, and overwhelmed. Yes, it's partly due to the state of the world right now. But to be honest, you've felt this way a long time, way before COVID.

I work in depth to help patients find a more genuine way of living and relating to others. My focus is on patients developing better relationships with themselves and their environments by investigating the interpersonal dynamics both in and out of the treatment room. We explore how prior relationships may echo or influence the immediate clinical situation, and apply this knowledge to better understand the dynamics of the patient's current personal and professional settings.

At times in our lives, we have all experienced confusing and sometimes painful events, whether it be the loss of a loved one, an unexpected illness or health issue, a life transition or trauma. Sometimes, the things we have done in the past to seek relief no longer work as they once did. Therapy can be helpful to find new ways to adjust to the challenges and complications of human life, whether it is rooted in a current life event needing temporary support or a more involved issue requiring long term exploration.

I work from a trauma-informed, systemic perspective, creating a safe supportive environment to allow for growth and change. I believe that clients have the power to heal themselves but can get stuck by past trauma and have difficulty accessing their own inner strength. I am here to help you access your own natural resources to navigate difficult times. I want to get you to your goals as quickly as possible and am happy to work short-term or long-term. My clients generally have relationship or family conflicts, PTSD, anxiety, behavioral issues or mood disorders.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
