Are you or your child anxious? Terrified to do something you know you should be able to, but just can't? Is your child not doing well in school? Do they lack the support they need to succeed? Are they being bullied? Does your child never seem to listen or do what you say?

I utilize a highly collaborative, cognitive-behavioral, strengths and mindfulness- based approach to therapy. This includes paying attention to my client’s values, and helping them find solutions that align with those values. My approach is structured but flexible enough to allow clients to maximize their time in session. I also believe that much of the growth clients experience occurs outside of the therapy session; therefore, establishing a plan of action to practice their newly acquired skills is an essential component of treatment.

Therapy is a tool to support you in accepting the things you can't change and building capacity to effectively change the things that you can- it's a balancing act. Are you struggling to cope with chronic stress? Are you stuck and can’t figure out what next move to make? Are you anxious about revealing deeper parts of yourself? Are you finding it hard to communicate effectively with friends, family, or colleagues? Would you like to learn to cope with negative emotion and find ways to promote positive emotion? These are all perfect questions that we can explore in therapy.

I've worked in schools for the last twenty-three years, helping an array of children and teens experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, as well as social, emotional, and academic challenges. I believe that young people are all amazing in their own ways. Children benefit from having someone in their corner unconditionally to help develop skills and strategies in an effort to become increasingly confident, independent, and successful both in and out of school. I value communication with parents to best help each client. I approach all of my clients in a warm and compassionate manner in an effort to develop a strong connection.

We all experience it at one time or another...that feeling of "being stuck". It could be in our career, our job, in college, our relationships, or our health. No matter if it's in one area of life or several, these difficulties can leave us with a loss of purpose, drive, and self-confidence, making us even less prepared to help ourselves get unstuck and move forward. As a licensed counselor for over 20 years, I have worked with hundreds of individuals and couples to support them in navigating their problem areas, finding their own solutions, and experiencing desired personal growth.

Perhaps you're struggling with anxiety and depression. Maybe you have been diagnosed with a mood or personality disorder. I have answers for these clinical presentations. I also have particular competence working with couples in distress, trauma survivors, and people who would like additional support with their interpersonal relationship style and self-esteem. Those experiencing negative life events, such as divorce, job loss, and those wanting to repair prior ruptures in relationships will also find my experience useful. Another aspect of my work involves athletes who are looking to remove obstacles to peak performance.

I truly enjoy supporting clients in understanding themselves and their experiences through a compassionate lens. I am honored to support identity exploration (e.g., LGBTQ+, communities of color) in ways that move clients to the life that they want. I firmly believe that it is my job as a therapist to hold client's hope for them when they cannot hope for themselves. We can sit in the discomfort together and savor the moments that feel aligned. My goal is to provide clients with skills and tools to cope with the tough moments, knowing we cannot get rid of them, to live a full life.

Remember when your partner felt like home? When did the laughter stop and the distance begin? Now every conversation feels like walking on eggshells—one wrong word away from another fight. The silence between you is deafening. You're lying next to someone you love but feeling completely alone. Criticism has replaced compliments. Resentment builds with every unmet need. You're exhausted from trying to connect, only to be met with defensiveness or withdrawal. Date nights feel forced. Intimacy feels impossible. You catch yourself wondering if this is all there is—if staying together means staying miserable.

I believe that anyone can benefit from therapeutic assistance, whether they are struggling with anxiety, depression, addictive behaviors or just going through a difficult period in life. Everyone holds the answers to their own concerns, so I allow the client to determine the direction and depth therapy should take while guiding the journey. My ideal client is anyone who feels a calling to bring their day to day life further into line with their most deeply held values.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
