Your relationships are important. While you don't expect to agree 100% of the time, you desire more harmony. You want to work together and may not know how to begin. I create a safe space to explore what's going on, and discover ways to make it better. I teach communication techniques that help you understand and stay connected through challenging times. Couples report I have helped them: argue less, recapture intimacy, resolve sex issues, resolve money issues, recover from affairs, decide the status of their relationship, establish parenting and visitation plans, mediate separation agreements and more.

I have many years of experience as a psychologist, teaching, supervising and providing psychotherapy to individual adults and couples.
I incorporate a broad range of perspectives and clinical principles in an overall integrative approach to psychotherapy. At the foundation of my work is an appreciation of each individual's capacity to heal and grow and a respect for each individual's path. My desire is to assist people in living an authentic, self-aware, and satisfying life. In my couples work, I strive to assist each partner in deepening their own self-understanding and compassionately holding the experience of their partner, as the couple works together to better understand and best tend or heal their relationship.

Everyone can benefit from some help once in a while, and finding a therapist who is a good fit can feel stressful and confusing. You want to feel understood, respected, and supported while getting the individual attention you need. Life is too short to be anxious or depressed all the time, surrender to bad relationships, hold grudges, or let trauma control us. I will help you get "unstuck", learn to move beyond emotional pain, and live your life in a healthier way. Whatever it is that you are facing, I believe one of the bravest things you can do is to take charge of your future and write your own story.

Everyone needs someone to talk to sometimes. I've been in practice for 15 years. I work with a variety of clients and situations, treating depression, anxiety, adjustment-related issues, loss, lonliness, and other concerns. My approach encompasses cognitive, psychodynamic, and spiritual orientations, depending on one's needs. My method seeks to be gentle, yet goal-directed. We often find ourselves acting, feeling and thinking in ways that seem automatic, and no longer under our control. These feelings and actions are familiar, but aren't satisfying and are not working for us anymore. Together we can create other ways to respond to your life that will be more fulfilling.

I have worked with many families from In Home therapy to outpatient through the years, it is the success stories that make a difference in their lives that help me learn as a clinician.
I enjoy the process of therapy from helping identify goals and empower you to make critical decisions to manage daily struggles. I understand that making the decision to seek help can be difficult, so I use an approach that is direct, and non-judgmental to help create an environment where you feel supported in your counseling journey. I hope to create treatment planning that is attainable and achievable, reviewed and supported by you to meet the challenges you want to overcome and managae. My specialties in training are Cognitive Behavioral therapy, and basic trained in EMDR.

Some people struggle for weeks, months, or even years before considering psychotherapy. And it makes sense — it's hard to confide in a stranger and can take a while to find the right fit. We want authenticity and experience in a therapist but also someone relatable and easy to talk with. When couples counseling, family therapy, or child/adolescent support is needed, the search may seem even more daunting. We need a clinician with the interpersonal skills, temperament, and adaptability to forge a meaningful connection with our partners, children, and the networks who support them.

In my work as a therapist, my first priority is to establish a comfortable, respectful working relationship that will allow my clients to begin to focus on the often difficult, painful and complex feelings, issues and situations that have brought them to counseling. My role is to listen carefully and thoughtfully, and to help guide and facilitate discussions that will help my clients to grow and change in beneficial ways, to resolve important conflicts and issues, and to reduce the severity of symptoms such as anxiety, depressed mood and difficulty managing anger.

Through building a relationship, I help clients manage anxiety, depression, and symptoms of other mental health conditions, understand themselves and their needs more clearly, and enhance their relationships.
Your life is complicated, and you are doing your best to keep all the pieces organized. Some aspects of your life are out of alignment and causing distress, anxiety, and leaving you unfulfilled. Maybe some experiences have stripped away your sense of control, self-worth, and dignity. It’s hard to admit that. My clients are motivated to improve the quality of their lives. They may not know exactly how to make this happen when we begin working together, but they know they want to be healthier and happier. In addition, many of my clients identify as LGBTQ+ and prefer to work with someone that is part of the community.

I am skilled at teaching many strategies - from Mindful Self-compassion to CBT and DBT to Gott man Method and Narrative Therapy to Eco-therapy.
Over the last thirty years as a Clinical Psychologist, I have learned how children, adults, couples, and families break free of disheartening relational patterns and rewrite oppressive stories. I have learned how to attend to what matters most: feeling safe, opening to love, and creating a life guided by compassion. I truly love my work, and that may be because I am still learning every day how to ask questions that spark wonder and creativity, how to listen for the depth behind words, knowing when to be patient, when to challenge.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
