Hello! I'm a spiritual and somatic counselor, and author of the forthcoming book "The Mind-Body Guide to the Twelve Steps." I offer a trauma-informed, heart/body-centered, and attachment-based approach to support you in releasing stress, developing awareness, and deepening relationship with yourself and others. My commitment is to provide you with a gentle and nurturing space that encourages exploration, discovery, and transformation. Sessions are collaborative, and incorporate mindfulness, guided imagery and dreamwork, and somatic practices to engage your body-mind's inherent capacities for healing, insight, and connection.

The blend of pastoral counseling and somatic therapy I offer has its roots in body-centered psychotherapy, mindfulness, spirituality, and the expressive arts.
Do you feel unsatisfied by life? Wish you felt a sense of meaning and purpose? Do you struggle with a merciless self-critic? Perhaps you're feeling anxious or depressed. These are all painful experiences that can leave you feeling hopeless, helpless, and alone. You may have developed self-destructive ways of coping, relying on an addiction or an eating disorder to get by. There is hope, and there is help. The counseling and therapy I offer can be an effective approach to addressing the root causes of your pain, so you can find relief and deep healing.

You're in a constant state of self-doubt, overthinking everything from the email you just took an hour to write to whether or not your relationship is doomed. On the surface you seem fine, but beneath that you're questioning everything about yourself. You're struggling with friendships, your identity and changes in your life that feel overwhelming. You're ready for relief. You’re ready to drop the struggle of needing to do everything "right." You’re ready to have someone help you figure this all out. Most of all, you’re ready to feel peace about who you are and the decisions you make.

I primarily work with teens and young adults; I appreciate and have profound compassion for the challenges presented by this time of life and the concurrent challenges for families. I can see wisdom, potential and ingenuity where young adults and their families may only see obstacles, faults or blame, and my goal is to help clients find that same trust in themselves. I help my clients access and bring forth the qualities they need to achieve their goals, whether that is addressing anxiety, emerging from depression, or exploring things that seem to be blocking forward movement in school, work, relationships, and creativity.

Adulting is hard! Do you sometimes feel like you're a smart and capable person and sometimes like you're a barely functioning adult? Maybe anxiety cripples you, you avoid phone calls and public spaces. Or maybe you avoid tasks that you struggle to find the motivation to accomplish (but it drives you crazy that it's not done). Do you feel incredibly lonely and isolated even when there are people around? Do your emotions feel like they run your life?

You make sense. Each part of you is here for an important reason and has a role to play in your continued growth. However, if you are seeking therapy, it might seem like just the opposite is true. Anxiety, depression, conflict, and behaviors that feel out of control can make our lives seem painfully small and disconnected, overwhelming, or incomplete. Whether long-term or sudden, such difficulties often involve a sense of stuckness; this can lead us to believe that we are somehow flawed, or that this is just the way life is. And yet, even as we are struggling, something in us knows that another way is possible.

Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding-Kahlil Gibran. I believe our emotions are our greatest teachers, and I work with clients to understand and unpack their lessons in order to cultivate a relationship to healing that's individual, sustainable, and empowering. There are many painful emotions and experiences we'd rather avoid, but like us, emotions need to be witnessed, respected, seen and heard. I customize my treatment and my approach based on my client's individual needs. I work to earn your trust, understand your goals, and build an accountable, secure, and respectful relationship with you.

I welcome children, youth and adults to my therapy practice. At this time I am still accepting new clients and am offering phone and video sessions via Zoom or FaceTme for clients who are distancing or quarantined. If you do not have access to video calls I am willing to provide you with counseling appointments over the phone. It is my intention that, during this difficult and challenging time, no one who wishes to have therapy with me will be denied appointments due to a lack of electronic equipment. The focus of my therapy continues to be supporting individuals, whatever their age, who are recovering from traumatic experiences.

I'm also a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, a body-based method for resolving trauma that is "stuck" in the body.
(NOTE: I have little to no availability. ) Do you struggle with the effects of a difficult childhood, have an addiction, had a life-changing accident, or experienced an abusive or controlling relationship? If so, you probably don't enjoy life as much as you'd like. Our work will be both a partnership and an exploration, working at your pace. I'm trained as a psychotherapist and a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. I value working collaboratively, at your pace, towards building greater resilience, feeling safer, and resolving areas of difficulty so that you can enjoy yourself, your relationships and your life more.

I offer a warm, relaxed and nonjudgmental environment and draw on somatic (body-centered) and mindfulness practices.
Are you looking for a different way to do therapy? One that focuses on your body, mind and spirit? Do you want more meaning and satisfaction in your life? Would you like to feel more connected to yourself and the world around you, more alive? How would it be for you to come back home to yourself and listen to the wisdom of your body?

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
