I supervise other clinicians and have a strong orientation to "what works," with an emphasis on flexibility, while being rooted in a psychodynamic background.
Welcome! I am currently accepting new clients. I believe that the relationship between me and my clients is the foundation on which, together, we will help you to understand yourself better, realize the patterns that are holding you back, and make the changes that you decide are enriching for your life. A large portion of my practice focuses on work with clients who struggle with issues related to trauma, attachment, and interpersonal wounding. This has led to an extensive background in many different disorders and presentations. In addition to working with individual clients, I also work with parents, including adoptive parents.

With all populations, I work from an eclectic combination of CBT, client-centered, and psychodynamic framework utilizing relaxation techniques and developing containment strategies to help clients cope with their symptoms.
My practice primarily treats children, adolescents, and adults through the modalities of individual, family therapy and parental guidance. I approach each client's issues, situations with care and compassion in order to create a non-judgemental space so they can develop their strengths and gain new insights into their symptoms and behaviors. I enjoy the process of building the therapeutic relationship as I believe that it is through relationships people can heal. Much of my experience is treating trauma; anxiety; mood disorders; and transitional issues such as divorce, adoption, loss, and relational issues.

My approach to therapy is integrative, combining CBT, Psychodynamic and Relational models, along with skills drawn from Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Mind/Body mindfulness.
I assist clients who are wanting to improve their lives in significant ways. While I specialize in treating eating disorders, anxiety and depression, most clients also come to me with related issues of trauma, self-confidence, struggles with change/transition, work, family relationships and other stressors. I see therapy as a collaborative process taking place in the context of an empathic relationship where support and appropriate challenge are offered. I encourage individuals to learn about themselves, understand the meaning behind symptoms and develop skills that enable them to take positive action toward well-being.

I use psychodynamic , CBT and DBT approaches and often apply expressive modalities (play, adventure and art therapy).
My clients are typically between the ages of 18-35, navigating college or the beginning of their professional career. They often experience immense pressure around expectations they have set for themselves, or someone else has set for them. They may experience anxiety or depression and are eager to explore coping skills and treatment options. They are interested in identifying the ways in which their relationships, responsibilities, family culture and current life stage plays a role in how they function in the world around them.

I use an integrated approach, grounded in psychodynamic , insight-oriented therapy, drawing from other models when they may be helpful.
You may be seeking therapy to ease the pain of depression, anxiety, trauma or loss; or because you are struggling with relationship and other interpersonal issues. Maybe something just does not “feel right,” preventing you from moving forward. Perhaps, you are challenged by existential questions and wish to explore your identity or find greater meaning in your life. What is causing you pain or holding you back may be a known challenge or problem, or an unexamined part of yourself that causes you to feel stuck. Whatever brings you here, you already possess the courage to seek help and the hope that your life can be better.

My approach to psychotherapy is collaborative, and is influenced by the specific needs of each individual. My style is relational and incorporates elements of both psychodynamic (insight oriented) and cognitive behavioral therapy (skill building), as well as mindfulness. In my experience, I have found that long lasting effects come from working with and addressing both the current symptoms of distress as well as the underlying factors that have caused these feelings. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is central, and value establishing a strong connection and working together in order to achieve personal changes.

My style is active/interactive and combines a psychodynamic , interpersonal and practical approach.
In a safe, warm and supportive environment, I help clients deal with their current stressful situations and relationships as well as long term unresolved pains and disappointments. Sometimes these are related, and exploring how the past affects the present is helpful and freeing. Patterns that may be self-defeating are highlighted, and more effective problem-solving and coping skills are developed. Through our work together, clients grow while getting through whatever crisis, transition or stuck place they may be in.

I am trained in relational, psychodynamic , systems, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Hello and welcome. It is never easy making the choice to begin therapy. Confiding in someone you don't know takes a lot of courage. With so many professionals out there, it can feel daunting and overwhelming to try and find the right person. A person you feel comfortable with, a place where you feel respected, a space of trust and safety. When I meet with a new client, my priority is to make sure you feel safe, respected, and heard. By working together, you will realize you are not alone.

I use a variety of tools and theories comfortably, from cognitive, behavioral and family systems, to relational and psychodynamic interventions.
Maturity, empathy and well developed listening skills are assets which I offer. I've been especially interested in helping women during pregnancy, and the postpartum period and resolving grief and loss from miscarriages. In addition, addressing issues of depression, anxiety and posttraumatic stress in men or women is especially gratifying to me. I often begin by teaching techniques for stress reduction, or in the case of lethargic depression, ways to energize the body, which help people function better quickly. Most important to me is helping people find hidden strengths and restore inner balance.

I work with adults, from college-age to elderly. My practice appeals to people who who not only suffer from symptoms that impede their daily happiness, but those who long to grow in their understanding of themselves and others. I aid in this process by focusing closely on the unique talents each person brings into the room. I look not for what is wrong but what is right and simply ask that they bring an honest willingness to participate in a partnership for change.

I believe in collaboration and flexibility and utlize psychodynamic , cognitive behavioral, Internal Family Systems, AEDP, and numerous couple therapy treatment modalities.
To grow, to change, and to learn about oneself and those we are close to is a challenge we all face. At times this challenge can feel overwhelming and difficult. There are times in life when engaging in therapy is truly beneficial. Loss, trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties occur. Life transitions can call upon us in ways that are truly unexpected and create disruptioins we are unprepared for. Trained as a clinical psychologist, I have been in practice 30+ years and have worked with individuals, couples, and families looking to change, searching for relief, and open to their own healing.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
