Hello! I believe in healing that comes through self-compassion, finding a voice, tending to what has been painful, and recognizing self-worth. I work with an awareness to the effects of trauma, and a value for internal strengths. I've been moved to read about being a highly sensitive person, about naming and valuing neurodivergence, about surviving codependency and recovering from shame. My background is in music therapy and spirituality. And I value inclusion and welcome, for cultural community, for LGBT experience, and for all the parts of ourselves longing for home and wholeness.

Challenging life experiences, both past and present, have a sneaky way of leaving fingerprints on our nervous system. Those fingerprints change the way we see and interact with the world. Fortunately, there are several evidenced-based techniques that can be used to wipe the slate clean, restore functioning, and alleviate suffering.

You want to feel better—but you’re not sure where to start. Maybe you’re stuck in the same patterns, overwhelmed by anxiety, weighed down by depression, or trying to break free from addiction. You’ve tried to figure it out on your own, but it’s exhausting. It can feel like you’re just treading water—doing your best to keep going, but never really moving forward. Real change is possible, and with the right support, you’ll start to feel more clear, confident, and in control of your life again.

Each of us has felt judged, marginalized, fearful, hopeless, and confused. During these times, it can be difficult to reach out, to ask for help, and to trust. Sometimes we feel unsafe. When we experience these challenges, it can be so hard to confront these difficult aspects of ourselves. My strength is to provide you with understanding and compassion. My strength is to help you feel safe, so you can move beyond some of the inner narratives that hold you back. In our first session together, we will review why you have come to therapy and get started on the identification of the issues we can collaborate on together.

My ideal client is a person who has gotten so stuck with emotional or medical challenges that these interfere with their ability to self-soothe, focus, make and execute constructive plans, get along with others or experience intimacy and connection with a mate or other fellow human beings. My ideal client wants to feel wanted and needed and yet may engage in unacknowledged self-defeating behaviors at home, at work or out in the larger social world worthy of inspection and “remodeling.” My ideal client is willing to make a commitment to a process of self-examination resulting in new efforts to make important changes in their life.

I work with individuals, couples and families looking for understanding, safety and connection in their lives. Whether the difficulty and pain you experience comes from trauma, neglect, abandonment or relationship conflict I believe you have the capacity and right to heal, feel good and live a good life; and that you can! I've worked with people recovering from childhood neglect, sexual and emotional abuse and the lack of connection that comes from preoccupied, distant, disconnected and or self absorbed parents. I'm constantly amazed at the power of this work.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
