I focus on feelings, unfulfilled desires, maladaptive defenses, and unsatisfying means of relatedness with past and present others - all of which generate anxiety.
In the treatment the clients gains affective knowledge that goes beyond insight with the power to promote change. My approach always remains open to change with the client's diagnosis, presenting problem, and treatment goals. The goal of the treatment is to allow the client to better know themself and enter a different life.

You're someone who has a lot going for you, and you know it. You're capable, self-aware, and driven. Yet you keep finding yourself in the same place: the same patterns, the same crossroads, the same quiet frustration that you should have this figured out by now. Maybe it shows up in your relationships. Maybe it's a decision you've been circling for months, or a transition you can't seem to move through. There's a gap between what you understand about yourself and what you're actually doing about it. That gap is exactly where I work.

Life is hard. Work is hard. Maintaining healthy relationships and raising kids is hard. Know what makes it easier? Talking about it. Because talking works. People in helping professions often experience burn out or compassion fatigue without knowing it. As a helping professional myself, I can tell you, you are not alone and it is possible to combat, process, and learn ways to regain your energy in life and reawaken your passion for helping others in your current role.

That's not anxiety.
Most of my clients are self-aware. They've done the work. They just still feel stuck and that's not a failure, that's a sign the work needs to go deeper. Together we'll get underneath the patterns driving your anxiety, trauma responses, and ADHD not just understand them, but actually shift them. In your body, not just your head.

In particular, I have focused on the perinatal experience and how to support women, and other caregivers, through the challenges of postpartum depression/ anxiety, partner issues and other barriers to attachment and connection.
For all of us, life brings transitions and challenges. We may struggle with current experiences, as well as the way we are carrying the past with us. Transitions in life are often filled with overwhelming emotions and a therapeutic relationship can provide space and a place to navigate these moments. We all possess strengths and, in our work together, we will uncover those and provide opportunities to manage challenges. My approach is trauma-informed, strengths-based and client-centered. I believe that we all benefit from a place to explore and understand our own story.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
