It can be disheartening to expend considerable energy trying to change something and be left with a similar outcome. It is not easy to lead a fulfilling life while being caught in patterns outside of awareness. Psychotherapy gives the opportunity to look inward and ask how a fleeting thought, a dream, or a subtle change may be related to ongoing difficulties. Taking a closer look at something while also being curious during that exploration can open up a greater understanding and lead to meaningful changes. I work to provide a supportive and inquisitive space for clients interested in pursuing more in-depth therapy.

My ideal client wants to live according to their values and aspirations, but they feel stuck. They don't know how to get where they want to go. They might be having some negative thoughts about themselves. They may feel on edge, jump to the worst possible conclusions, or think people are judging them. They often want to be able to do many things that they've been avoiding. Accomplishing these things is important to them because it helps them feel in control of their lives.

Suffering takes so many forms and has so many causes. Issues with school, work, relationships, or transitions take their toll. Acute mental illness causes intense emotions, hopelessness, and overwhelm. If nothing else, we all experience the suffering that comes from impermanence - the anticipation or reality of aging, illness, and death. I specialize in helping people whose anxiety manifests as obsessions, compulsions, intrusive thoughts, avoidance, or perfectionism. My approach is effective for depression, addictive behaviors, reliance on phones or internet, relational and self-concept issues, and navigating difficult transitions.

As a gay man, I am passionate about working with clients from historically marginalized communities, including the LGBTQIA+ population.
I utilize a psychodynamic (insight oriented) approach, integrating relational therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and trauma informed treatments. I also employ tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mentalization Based Therapy, when clinically appropriate. I strongly believe that our identities and backgrounds, including our culture, sexual orientation, and gender identity, play a large role in our development and identity formation. I value clinical relationships built on trust and aim to foster a safe and judgement-free space that helps my clients gain insight into their feelings, thoughts, and patterns of behavior.
