Hi, I'm Dr. Lauren Dumont. While seeking help may come easy for some, I know it is difficult for others. I prioritize co-creating a comfortable environment for us to work within. I am a therapist who is whole-heartedly myself when meeting with clients; my warmth, humor, and caring personality come through during therapy sessions. I strongly believe that identifying and expressing emotions, engaging in genuine moments of connection, re-framing problematic thoughts, and building helpful skills are key ingredients to well-being. I have expertise working with individuals who struggle with depression, anxiety, grief , and stress.
I specialize in interpersonal growth and connection. I have extensive experience helping people understand themselves better and deepen their relationships with others. In therapy, we will collaborate and address issues that block connections and that lead to feelings of being lost, confused, sad, and fearful. I often treat individuals who are searching for greater fulfillment in their lives and who experience isolation. Together, we will look into what purpose these behaviors serve. We will work to make room for new, effective behaviors that present themselves and that will support connections to a more meaningful life.

How do we grow, heal, learn, and develop so as to manifest our authentic being; discern our deepest commitments; and lend our energy, talent, experience, and care to something beyond the self? What beliefs, assumptions, emotions, behaviors, and other experiences interfere with our intentions – and yet have important meanings in their own right? These questions guide my work with people addressing life transitions (across the lifespan); relationships (with self, other, world, and generative pursuits); love and loss (of people, places, assumptions, conceptions of self); and the potential for grace and growth in a process of grief .

I have experience helping people with grief and loss , addiction, depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD.
It takes strength and courage to reach out when you feel that you are struggling and begin the first steps towards healing. I hope to create a respectful and non-judgmental space to help you feel valued and supported. I believe that people have knowledge about ways to change their lives and hope to empower them to see themselves as strong and capable of making these changes. I strive to help people to feel comfortable in a process that can be anxiety-provoking, and try to create a place that is both safe and at times challenging, when needed.

, divorce, illness, marriage, moves, job loss ); and those experiencing loss , trauma, anxiety.
As a psychologist, I feel honored when clients share the pain and suffering of their life, as well as the relief and joy that often follow successful therapy. I work best with people who are open to change and transformation and with those who are willing to consider their resistance to change. We encounter changes in our lives, or in the realities with which we need to cope, and those experiences challenge us to transform ourselves and our approach to things. Transformation often involves addressing the fear, denial, avoidance, and other obstacles that prevent us from becoming increasingly whole.

Therapy can be uniquely helpful when struggling with aspects of self care, relationships and/or negotiating external circumstances including with our political world. Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
