Therapy at its best combines both insight and action. Understanding ourselves can provide a kinder and less judgmental frame of understanding how we got here. But this is not enough. Taking steps, both in life and during therapy to heal and make changes is essential for an effective and satisfying outcome. For these reasons, my approach to therapy combines the depth orientation of insight oriented psychotherapies and mindfulness with the action oriented aspects of cognitive-behavioral, behavioral and internal focusing techniques.

I am currently only accepting Intensive EMDR clients over the summer, and I specifically hold places in my schedule for college and high school students wishing to recover from sexual assault prior to returning to school. These intensives generally include three or four two hour sessions completed over several weeks or a weekend depending on mutual availability. EMDR can be incredibly helpful in recovering from sexual assault. I would love to talk to you about whether EMDR would be a good fit for you or your child. Please see my website for more information.

I see patients searching for meaning and fulfillment in their lives, or wrestling with existential issues of loneliness, a sense of loss or mild to profound disconnection. Sometimes this coincides with anxiety, depression, trauma, difficulty relating to others, or a lack of comfort living in their own body.

Something that sets me apart from other therapists is my fresh perspective and enthusiasm to help others. I am qualified to work with a wide range of people, but I specialize in working with people who wish to connect with themselves and explore how past experiences, relationships with others and their sexuality form their identity. My passion for understanding how people think, feel and interact with others led me to the field of psychotherapy.

Sometimes life's difficulties are too hard to bear alone. Talking with a trusted person, over a period of time, can make a significant difference. This is the essence of psychotherapy. Sometimes people come in crisis, in major life transitions, are grieving a loss; sometimes there are problems in one's own personality, in relationships, family, work, or just plain loneliness. There may be the residue of childhood trauma or other pain from the past that is getting in the way of living a more fulfilling and creative life.
