I collaborate with my clients to determine what will be most useful in our work together, whether cognitive-behavioral (CBT), psychodynamic, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR ), stress management techniques, couples counseling, or some combination thereof.
Are you struggling in your relationships? Do you feel "not good enough"? Do you think you don't even know HOW to have fulfilling relationships? I work with individuals and couples so that they can communicate more effectively, create more satisfying relationships, and feel better in their own skin. It can be especially challenging to maintain healthy relationships and self esteem if your are dealing with issues such as depression, anxiety, parenting, a high pressured job, or a recent loss. I can help.

I integrate psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapies, internal and strategic family systems, EMDR and other trauma-informed approaches, and mindfulness-based stress management.
Effective therapy creates meaningful, lasting, joyful change. As your therapist I can help you resolve the inner and outer conflicts that create pain and exhaustion. Life brings unchosen experiences. Sometimes we feel hurt, scared, or deeply alone. Sometimes what happens seems too big to manage. For 25+ years I have had the privilege of helping people learn to live as their "best self," able to manage their moods, thoughts and situations with compassion and skill, to make changes to reach their goals, and to find happiness. I have also had the honor of helping couples and families move from hurtful interactions to healthy loving relationships.

Each therapy begins with a consultation for "goodness of fit". I listen carefully and actively for symptoms, to history and to the experience of suffering. Desciphering patterns that may contribute to current suffering begins right away as well. I encourage your questions so that together we can develop a collaborative treatment plan. This plan may include short-term intervention or longer-term therapy, depending on the nature of problems, treatment goals, and available resources. I use a range of treatment approaches e.g. dynamically informed psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, mindfulness-based interventions, EMDR and expressive arts in my therapeutic work.

I have received education and specialized training in multiple therapeutic orientations, including feminist/relational therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing ( EMDR ), somatic approaches, and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
I love what I do. As a therapist, I have the privilege of walking with people during a part of their life journey, and it’s incredibly rewarding. I work well with people who desire greater self-knowing. My clients are curious and self-reflective, but have experienced things that leave them feeling stuck, frustrated and uncertain. During sessions we may encounter hard-to-feel emotions like grief, anger, and shame. Together we sort through the mess, look at it with kindness, and make meaning. Clients leave therapy with me having cultivated deeper clarity and self-compassion, and feel able to make empowered choices in their lives.

I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR ), Psychodynamic Theory, and Attachment Theory and use a combination of training and experience to support your specific and individual needs.
As your collaborator, my focus is on your strengths, your challenges, and your goals. You may feel stuck and not sure how you'll navigate a transition such as the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, an alarming diagnosis, or a career disruption. Together, we will work to move away from negative patterns that limit your growth and move towards greater self-compassion. My job is to create a place where you can express your full range of emotions in every session. While tears in therapy may be expected, do not discount the healing power of laughter.

I am trained in an approach called EMDR which helps you recall disturbing experiences and reprocess them.
Licensed in CO and MA. It’s like a video stuck on a loop that keeps playing over, and over, and over… You can’t get the images out of your head. Looking over your shoulder, being easily frightened; it wasn’t you before, but it is now. Things look bleaker than they did before it happened. Remembering or not remembering, you’re unsure of which is worse. Is this your new normal? To others, you look like you’re keeping it together. It couldn’t be farther from the truth. You’re hiding behind a thin veil of normalcy and you're worried about what would happen if the curtain were pulled back.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
