I also see couples and have experience with Divorce issues.
In today's world, which is advancing at an unreachable pace, we are being invaded by information, experiences and news difficult to assimilate. In turn, bewildered in a new questioning of values that seemed to be our guide, and pushed to learn new ways of relating, we all suffer from a certain level of stress and in some cases even depression. I am psychoanalytically trained and committed to generate the environment for you to find yourself safe and comfortable to talk about everything you need. Bi Lingual-Cultural (Espanol/English)

I enjoy working with adults, adolescents, children, and couples from diverse backgrounds.
Life is challenging and beautiful, and so confusing. We strive toward meaning and connection. Yet, often we feel stuck as we struggle to overcome internal and external barriers to the life we want to lead. Therapy can provide a safe environment to work through difficulties, cope with intense feelings, and move toward positive change. In my approach to counseling, you will find warm support, as well as encouragement to look inward and take action at your own pace. I will listen to you carefully, and if needed, respectfully challenge you to take responsibility for your life, while letting go of self-blame.

The most important aspect of treatment is the relationship between the therapist and the client.
My approach to treatment is to create a space that is supportive and empathetic so that the client will be in a place to build rapport, explore issues that are interfering with their quality of life, and develop a better sense of goals and the means to reach them. I operate from a Strength-based and Cognitive-behavioral therapy lens with elements of other modalities.

I work with children, adolescents, college students, adults, couples and families.
Children and adults alike confront challenges to healthy functioning and personal fulfillment. I aim to create an empathic connection with my clients, enabling them to better understand their emotions and habitual ways of coping with challenges, and to change the patterns of thought and behavior that interfere with reaching their goals and potential. Whether using play therapy with children or talk therapy with adults, I take an active approach to help clients achieve their goals and resolve their problems. When treating children, I work closely with parents, providing careful guidance about how to help their child develop and thrive.

While specializing in men's issues, anger management, and adolescent populations, I also work individually with women dealing with anxiety, loss and relationship issues. With an emphasis on strengthening relationships and self-esteem, therapy is designed for people searching for a more balanced approach to working through change. I offer family therapy, have extended success connecting with male and female adolescence whose behaviors have been labeled oppositional or explosive, and work with parents/families who struggle with how to relate and communicate with their teenager and each other.

I specialize in helping men, women, artists, business and trades people, as well as adult children of alcoholics restore diminished or lost connections to their poietic capacity. The word poiesis is from ancient Greek, meaning to make, or to bring forth. In my work, I refer to it as meaning one’s creative capacity to respond to and shape one’s life - as well as one’s capacity to create things i.e. art, woodwork, poetry, a relationship , a mindfulness practice, a career, a garden, etc. When we are overwhelmed, our mental health can suffer, sometimes making it difficult for us to respond to life's challenges in a way that works for us.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
