I enjoy working with people from all ages and backgrounds and have training and experience as a child, teen , adult, and group psychotherapist.
I see therapy as a place to practice courage and honesty, with the goal of creating more joy, humor, flexibility, and play in one's life, relationships, and work. I often see individuals dealing with complex issues such as depression, grief/loss, anxiety, recovery from trauma/abuse or neglect, postpartum or parenting issues, child emotional or behavioral concerns, relationship conflicts, or identity/life transitions. My approach is collaborative, empathic, and interactive, creating an environment in which to help you better understand, relate to, and address the challenges you are experiencing.

Often struggles with parents and teachers signal that your teenager is trying to sort things out.
Deciding to talk with a therapist about your problems is a courageous step to take especially when you may not feel at your best. It is especially difficult when you've tried numerous times to figure out what gets in the way yet you haven't changed. Together, we can explore the issues so that you obtain what you truly want for yourself. The approach I use is compassionate, warm, and designed especially for you. You will emerge feeling more confident, happier, and more fulfilled. I have 18 years of experience to draw from to help you enliven and enrich your life.

I am an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School, and for 17 years I was the Director of Child/ Adolescent Inpatient Psychology at Cambridge Health Alliance.
Children and adults alike confront challenges to healthy functioning and personal fulfillment. I aim to create an empathic connection with my clients, enabling them to better understand their emotions and habitual ways of coping with challenges, and to change the patterns of thought and behavior that interfere with reaching their goals and potential. Whether using play therapy with children or talk therapy with adults, I take an active approach to help clients achieve their goals and resolve their problems. When treating children, I work closely with parents, providing careful guidance about how to help their child develop and thrive.

While specializing in men's issues, anger management, and adolescent populations, I also work individually with women dealing with anxiety, loss and relationship issues. With an emphasis on strengthening relationships and self-esteem, therapy is designed for people searching for a more balanced approach to working through change. I offer family therapy, have extended success connecting with male and female adolescence whose behaviors have been labeled oppositional or explosive, and work with parents/families who struggle with how to relate and communicate with their teenager and each other.

TELEHEALTH ONLY AT THIS TIME. Beginning therapy takes bravery. If anxiety, moodiness or depression won’t let go; or if you feel trapped by patterns that you cannot break, it is a signal to seek care. I would be honored to welcome you to my practice. If you’re a teenager whose worries or moods have become overwhelming, you aren’t alone. As adults we may find ourselves stuck or overwhelmed. Perhaps life is changing, whether by design or as an intrusion to a life humming along. Perhaps you are struggling with questions of meaning and purpose. When your ability to engage in life has diminished, seeking help makes sense.

I see individuals with a wide range of ages and presenting concerns, however I specialize in treating anxiety, OCD, and in adolescent psychotherapy.
With any and all presenting concerns, I provide a warm, non-judgmental environment. I have an integrative approach, with a particular focus on motivational enhancement, insight oriented exploration of past experiences, and when appropriate, specific tools and coping strategies. I use a number of research backed cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) protocols, which are proven to be effective in treating anxiety and depression. However, I am careful to use these methods in the context of a client centered and welcoming environment which accounts for an individual's particular needs, experiences, and readiness to change.

Helping your teen to feel comfortable and seen is my priority. I believe that true growth cannot happen outside of a warm, safe relationship. There is so much happening developmentally for teens and having a judgement-free space to slow down, unpack thoughts/feelings and gain clarity/awareness can lead to immense empowerment and growth for young people.

You want your teen to be happy.
You are worried about your teenager . They look sad and anxious, closed in their room. You are afraid to ask, you want to give them space but you are worried that something is not right. They hardly talk and seem to be interested in very little. They used to socialize and be active but since the pandemic everything seems to have come to a standstill. When they were little it was easier, you knew what to say, how to engage with them and calm them down. But now it seems that anything you do is wrong. The tension in the house is high and all you want is for things to be like they used to,

It is important that you get a chance to connect with me and find out if I am a good fit for you, your teen , your couple, and/or your family.
Life is tough, precious, challenging, and full of possibilities. Yet, too often we find ourselves in survival mode just managing the overwhelming moments. Problem is, this pulls us further away from how we want to feel and be in the world. Whether that looks like depression, anxiety, substance use, traumatic reactions, self-harm, family conflict, or something a bit different- I am here to help. In therapy, we can change the way you relate to your suffering, finding relief and more space for the fun stuff. We will work to understand your thoughts, befriend your feelings, and shift behaviors so you can find a calmer state of being.

If you are here, I believe you can see, even if not clearly, that there are other - better - possibilities for you. I do not think of psychotherapy as the process of eliminating illness, rather that of creating health. Receiving a diagnosis may provide a measure of relief, but in the end it is just a description of symptoms. The real work, in my mind, is that of discovering your true potential and actualizing it. I consider it an honor and privilege to be invited as guide on such a journey.

Life is challenging and beautiful, and so confusing. We strive toward meaning and connection. Yet, often we feel stuck as we struggle to overcome internal and external barriers to the life we want to lead. Therapy can provide a safe environment to work through difficulties, cope with intense feelings, and move toward positive change. In my approach to counseling, you will find warm support, as well as encouragement to look inward and take action at your own pace. I will listen to you carefully, and if needed, respectfully challenge you to take responsibility for your life, while letting go of self-blame.

It is not uncommon to feel that life’s challenges are too much to handle alone. I assist individuals in the process of bettering and more fully understanding themselves. Through a therapeutic and empathetic relationship, we can work together to reduce negativity in your life and increase your sense of autonomy, confidence, and mindfulness. I believe that with guidance and reflection, even our most difficult experiences can often become our greatest sources of strength and resilience.

Therapy begins where you are. People seek therapy for many different reasons. Whether you are dealing with a particular crisis or simply want to know more about yourself, therapy can lead to a better understanding of who we are and what has shaped us. Through these discoveries, therapy can allow you to identify old patterns that have been standing in your way of living the life you want.

You keep wondering if you are repeating the same pattern again and again; it feels inevitable and totally out of your control and yet you can't stop blaming yourself. I commend you for holding on to hope, for reaching out. It requires courage and inner strength to look for someone who is trained to listen and help. I have training and experience helping those who struggle with depression, anxiety, memories of trauma, career and relationship difficulties.

Teen Therapists
Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can raise questions of independence and identity; as adolescents cultivate their sense of self, they may face difficult choices about academics, friendship, sexuality, gender identity, drugs, and alcohol.

Most teens have a relatively egocentric perspective on life; a state of mind that usually abates with age. They often focus on themselves and believe that everyone else—from a best friend to a distant crush—is focused on them too. They may grapple with insecurities and feelings of being judged. Relationships with family members often take a backseat to peer groups, romantic interests, and appearance, which teens perceive as increasingly important during this time.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical, but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence.
