I work with clients who are struggling with anxiety, adjustment issues, trauma, or who are coping with an illness.
Are you feeling overwhelmed or feel like you're in "survival mode" as your usual ways of coping aren't effective? Perhaps, you're feeling lost or confused as you're adjusting to a life transition, grieving a loss, or navigating a new illness. Perhaps, you're simply feeling stuck in relationship patterns possibly related to the past? Regardless of whatever you're experiencing your body's innate wisdom may be pivotal in restoring a sense of well-being, enabling you to move forward and lead the life you wish to live. Whatever you're seeking, I'll work collaboratively with you to access what already exists within you!

Today, I mostly treat depression, anxiety, trauma/grief, cross cultural issues, adjustment to college life, sexuality, relationship and parenting issues.
"A belief is not merely an idea the mind possesses. It is an idea that possesses the mind." Robert Oxton Bolton. We act based on our beliefs, and sometimes who we believe we are, and what we believe we can achieve might not align with the future we wish to build around us. And sometimes, we might not be even aware that we have those misbelieves. As a psychotherapist with psychoanalytic background, I am trained to listen to my clients in a unique way. In my private practice, I provide individual and couples therapy for adults and young adults.

Often, we find ourselves stuck. We repeat ineffective and painful patterns of behavior, and think worrisome and self-critical thoughts. Our past creeps in and impacts our present functioning. We struggle with conflict and communication in our most important relationships. It takes courage to tell your story, whether it is your first time or you have previously engaged in therapy. It is a privilege for me to learn about, and partner with you in pursuit of your goals. I see therapy as a safe and collaborative space to explore yourself, your areas of strength and of growth, and your relationships, without judgement.

First and foremost, I am concerned with understanding the full person with whom I am sitting, and not solely their problems or symptoms. This stance stems from a belief that without such careful attention to a person's full scope, the issues people seek help for are often not adequately resolved. Clients who are willing to attempt a process of reflection, dialogue, and practice have typically found my office a safe and useful space to work through their dilemmas and concerns.

I am licensed in MA and hold a Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder Certification (PMH-C).
Getting through the day to day in the intensity of the world we live in can be a feat in itself. Now more than ever, it may seem that the nonstop cycle of news, notifications and pressures can feel overstimulating. Combine that with the typical transitions in life, such as changing jobs, school stress, adjusting to a new phase from perinatal period or change in relationship status. You may notice unhelpful patterns, difficult emotions, and unexpected challenges becoming more overwhelming and are now seeking to take a step in establishing your grounding, control and calm.

Anxiety Therapists
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
