I have over eight years of experience providing individual and group therapy treatment for people experiencing mental health and substance use disorders.
It is not easy to start therapy treatment. An ideal client is a person that, even through all the fears, doubts and questions, takes the first step to start treatment and gives a chance to explore a new technique to find better balance in their life. There could be setbacks in the process but the most important thing is to stay constant. The client is willing to work in their goals and implement skills learned in every session. Also, to ask questions needed, even if they feel afraid, in order to be able to communicate with their therapist in a honest way.

With over ten years' experience, I treat a range of issues from life transitions to chronic mental health diagnoses, with expertise in emotion dysregulation and habitual/addictive problems, such as substance use , borderline personality disorder, impulsivity, suicidal ideation, depression, and anxiety.
I believe helping you with the issues you bring to therapy starts with empathy and respect. As partners in this process, we will work together to seek a deeper, compassionate understanding of the issues you are seeking help with. We will work to understand the forces- past and present- that contribute to your struggles. Through this lens I will help you mobilize your strengths and values, cope effectively now, and empower you to change lifestyle patterns that maintain emotional pain. No matter how stuck or hopeless you may feel, it is always possible to make changes and move toward a more fulfilling life.

I specialize in working with young adults/adults struggling with anxiety, relationship issues, life transitions and substance use . When we are anxious and overwhelmed, it can cause us to feel disconnected from others. Feeling stuck and stressed can trigger self-doubt and poor decision-making, and this chips away at our self-esteem. Personal challenges have taught me that tough times can be an opportunity to gain wisdom and resiliency. I can help you identify the core issues that are negatively impacting you and deterring you from enjoying your life and achieving your goals.

I have experience with anxiety, depression, couple/family/relationship issues, PTSD, substance use , personality disorders, minority stress, spiritual/religious/existential issues, anger management, and co-parenting.
Many come to therapy knowing only that they are struggling to get things done, their relationships have become a source of stress rather than comfort, or they need help processing trauma, loss, or other painful experiences impacting their daily lives. Whatever your circumstances, I strive to help each person or family I work with achieve greater emotional, psychological, and social well-being, while also alleviating symptoms. I use the power of storytelling and understand that each person I work with has many, important stories to tell. I also value and work with each person's nervous system in the healing process.

*** Now offering virtual sessions to new patients*** Do you have concerns about your substance use ? Are you worried about a loved one with an addiction problem? Are you in recovery & looking to make changes in your life? Are you looking to make changes regarding your relationship with substances? Many of my clients are parents, siblings, spouses or concerned significant others (friends, coworkers, etc) with a primary concern about someone else's well-being. Other clients I see are looking for a therapist who will meet them where they are in trying to change their substance use or assist them in their individual recovery process.

Through my practice as an LMHC, I have found my style matches perfectly with people living with everyday mental illness such as anxiety/depression/ substance use /life stress. Most clients come to me for support with identifying issues, assessing them and then problem solving to overcome and strengthen their own skill set and use of coping skills. My clients enjoy traditional talk therapy as well as setting some goals and using my service to keep them accountable. If you are looking for a non biased, clinical, third party to chat with and process/overcome stressors, you are in the right spot.

I have expertise in trauma and stress, substance use , grief, and motivational issues.
At times, life events can seem to control the way we feel, creating feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. Other times, you may struggle with feeling unmotivated or purposeless without any specific cause. I believe psychotherapy empowers people by understanding specific struggles while actively developing skills to create change. A key part of our work will be identifying the things that matter to you and finding ways that therapy can bring you closer to a life that is more connected with your values.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
