My practice includes adults and young adults who experience anxiety and/or stress/depression grief and/or life transitions: launching kids, divorce/breakups/loss of loved one, co-dependency/addiction issues, parenting and sleep .
Welcome. My clients are looking for an experienced therapist who helps them develop goals and suggests "homework" assignments--giving them feedback and practice outside of session. They might feel "stuck". They want relief fast, but are willing to examine how they got here. We focus on strengths, what they've done that is working, and self-care (whole person) as a priority. Relationships are important to them as is learning how to communicate and set boundaries effectively. The family we grew up in can shape us in different ways, which is why I do a family tree with every client I see. Licensed in RI and Massachusetts Telehealth.

While I pull from many approaches in my work, I especially enjoy utilizing skills-based therapies like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I).
Through my own lived experience, I can deeply resonate with the realities my Millennial and Gen Z clients face. Dating, social media, politics, finances, and demands from school or work can be so daunting. My main priority as a therapist is to create a non-judgmental, engaging, and approachable environment where you feel empowered to navigate these challenges together. Just having one of those days where you need to vent about your mom, partner, or roommate? There’s plenty of space for that too.

I have also worked with those who suffer with depression, stress and anxiety, addictions and compulsions, grief and bereavement, phobias, insomnia , parenting or family problems, chronic pain or illness, eating disorders, intimate partner violence, relationship issues, anger, identity issues, and vocational/educational challenges.
I am a warm and empathic therapist who will help you to see and grow into your best self and improve your day-to-day life. I believe that a person is more than just the sum of their parts, that people have many levels of self-awareness, that we have free will and participate, rather than simply observe our lives, and that we all have purpose, value, and meaning. We can choose happiness and contentment. Much of our suffering and despair (and our joy and fulfillment) comes from our relationships with others. I want my clients to be treated with respect and care in their relationships and to believe that this is an attainable goal.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
