Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Therapists in Boston, MA
I specialize in helping individuals navigate the deep and complex impact of trauma. Trauma doesn’t just show up in the obvious ways—it affects us emotionally, mentally, and even physically, often manifesting as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, PTSD, personality disorders, communication issues, loneliness, etc. Whether you’re struggling with fear of intimacy, unresolved childhood wounds, or anger, it’s likely that unhealed trauma is playing a role. By healing at the deepest levels, we will create lasting change—rather than just managing symptoms, we can unlearn the maladaptive patterns that are keeping you stuck.

Many come to therapy knowing only that they are struggling to get things done, their relationships have become a source of stress rather than comfort, or they need help processing trauma, loss, or other painful experiences impacting their daily lives. Whatever your circumstances, I strive to help each person or family I work with achieve greater emotional, psychological, and social well-being, while also alleviating symptoms. I use the power of storytelling and understand that each person I work with has many, important stories to tell. I also value and work with each person's nervous system in the healing process.

Coaching clients work with me on topics related to narcissistic abuse recovery, surviving high conflict divorce, supporting their gender expansive child, adjusting to an open relationship or polyamory, working as a traveling artist/musician/production crew, or navigating a major life transition.
I have extensive knowledge related to the topics I coach on and am known for being warm, caring, and funny. One coaching client said that they felt like my hand was on their shoulder while talking through their challenges. Sometimes we just need additional support during a tough or confusing time.

Life is an ongoing process of aligning with our true authentic self. Without that alignment life can feel barren and meaningless. We feel stuck and unable to realize our visions and dreams. Yet, the capacity of the human spirit for creative and intuitive development is truly unlimited. Most of us however, use only a small fraction of that capacity. Through self-reflection and personal exploration we can gain an understanding of what limits this capacity.

I believe we all have the capacity to grow and reach greater levels of understanding along happiness in life. I think the best way to get there is through a meaningful connection that is created in a safe environment where we can express our authentic needs. One of the great promises of therapy is that even when we don’t know exactly what we need or know how to feel better, if we lean in with curiosity and compassion- and stay committed- we can learn to turn toward ourselves and each other with empathy, begin to build healthier relationships and ride those waves of emotions like a pro surfer.

I help clients with anxiety, depression, relational issues, and trauma (among many other issues) find relief and healing through a collaborative, relational, therapy experience. Mental health struggles can be overwhelming and confusing, especially when attempts to manage symptoms don't feel very effective. This can be all the more challenging when symptoms become part of a repetitive pattern one doesn't know how to stop. I work with individuals to understand more deeply what and why they are experiencing their particular struggles, allowing for a more individualized treatment approach that enables a meaningful shift in wellbeing.

Life experiences, transitions, and relationships provide both an opportunity to be challenged and to grow. In my practice, I welcome adults, couples, adolescents and families who wish to improve the quality of any dimension of their lives - from professional, family and parenting relationships to emotional, interpersonal, or physical challenges. Drawing upon specialized training focused on gaining insight (psychodynamic), building skills to manage emotions and behaviors (cognitive behavioral) and understanding relationships (family systems/relational), I work closely with individuals to develop understanding and identify goals that address the distinct factors that may be inhibiting life pursuits or interfering with personal, academic, or professional satisfaction and success.

I specialize in working with men who carry significant responsibility and are feeling the strain of it.
Many of the men I work with are high-functioning professionals and leaders who are managing life outwardly but dealing internally with stress, anger, burnout, or emotional shutdown. Therapy becomes an option not because they want to “talk about feelings,” but because the pressure has become unsustainable.

I am trained in cognitive behavioral and psychoanalytic treatment modalities and consider psychotherapy as both an opportunity to address and reduce suffering, and to engage in a process of personal education. My practice focuses on patients who are seeking an alliance in addressing their concerns and suffering as well as patients who are seeking and willing to re-learn and engage in self-exploration toward the ends of better adjustment, understanding and awareness.

What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?
Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.
How do therapists treat NPD?
By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.
Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?
Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.
How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?
It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
