In conjunction with traditional psychotherapeutic frameworks (CBT, DBT, Gestalt, Psychodynamic), I use Expressive Arts Therapy (Movement, Drama, Music/Sound, Art) to help foster a creative process.
The therapy session is a time and space one sets aside to focus on self. To be with self. And to build one’s self. It can be challenging to reflect on patterns, thoughts and emotions, relationships, past events and/or change, but it can also be transformative and rewarding. My role as your therapist is to witness your process and to reflect back with you along the way. The therapeutic relationship is an essential piece of my practice and is built on honesty, trust, empathy, and compassion.

Hi! I'm honored to be in the business of helping people maximize their potential. We do not recall asking to be born, yet we are often required to navigate families, communities, school systems and other establishments that we would not choose for ourselves. Let's work together to devise a plan for your life that brings peace, joy and self-mastery.

I am a therapist because I believe we should be creators of our lives and not consumers of others' expectations. Working collaboratively, you and I will explore where you feel stuck and make moves toward a more fulfilling life. As an artist and a queer feminist, I am a great therapeutic fit for folks who want to build an authentic life. I love working with adults as they navigate life changes in relationships, career, finances, and family; and I love working with teens as they navigate school, neurodivergent diagnoses, and identity.

As a therapist, I believe healing starts in spaces where you feel safe, affirmed, and truly seen. My work is grounded in a person-centered, trauma-informed approach, which means I walk beside you with deep respect for your lived experience, your pace, and your resilience. I center a multicultural and anti-oppressive lens in therapy. Our identities—racial, cultural, gender, spiritual, and more—shape how we move through the world, and they deserve to be honored and held with care. To me, therapy is like sailing a boat: you’re the captain, and I’m here to help you get your lifejacket on and navigate the waves together, stormy or calm.

As a credentialed art therapist with twenty years of experience, in addition to talk therapy I can offer the opportunity to use art materials as an occasional, supplemental or central feature of our work together.
We are all works in progress. People seek therapy for many reasons. For instance, you may be looking for a place to process stressful events or address relationship problems. You may be yearning to interrupt your unhelpful patterns and ways of getting stuck, in order to find a life forward direction. Therapy is your time to focus on yourself and it is my goal to accompany you on your journey in the most helpful and constructive way possible. I encourage clients to regularly check in about the effectiveness of therapy. Together we will ask: are you beginning to experience positive shifts or forward movement in your life?

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
