Do you feel insecure, critical or judgmental against yourself? When we only focus on our failures and flaws, suddenly they start defining us and affecting our self-esteem. The first step to loving yourself is dedicating time to yourself. Are you looking to improve your emotional intelligence? Are you having trouble connecting with people? Is it difficult to be assertive? Our mental health and well-being is highly related to the quality of the relationships that we have. Getting to know yourself and understanding those around you will help you nurture and attend this important aspect.

I am an MGH-Harvard affiliated psychologist with a psychotherapy practice of over 30 years in the South End. I work with adults, young adults, college students and couples. My goal is to ease your distress and help you live the life you want. While my background is in psychodynamic psychotherapy, I believe that each person's needs are unique. Thus, I draw on a wide range of approaches to help resolve troubling issues--self-defeating patterns, paralyzing anxieties, or feelings of dissatisfaction in relationships.

Worry, Anxiety, Trauma, Depression, Grief, Overwhelming Feelings, Relationship Disasters... these are but a few of the issues that may lead someone to consider a professional who can support and assist you with your core concerns. I specialize in treating the human condition from a holistic perspective, always honoring the uniqueness of each individual and respecting their way of "being" in the world. Our aim together will be to explore and find revelations, resolutions, and solutions. Using a psychoanalytic approach, we will bring to light the driving forces behind the repetitive behaviors that tend to keep us attached to repeated outcomes.

I find that most people who come to my office are in distress, and they want to feel better. First we try to ease the distress; then we try to understand more about what is causing it. Few things help more in this process than a relationship with a trusted and helpful advisor. Problems such as anxiety, loss, depression, poor self esteem , and difficulty in complex relationships can be solved given the right mix of time, talk, and support. Most people I see are grateful for the relief and valuable insight they gain into their own situations.

The process of finding a therapist can be overwhelming. It is difficult know who could be a good match for you based on a brief profile or a photograph. Beyond this profile, I am here to answer any questions that you may have. My therapeutic approach is informed by my work as a faculty member at Boston University School of Medicine. I define my style as a balance of support, challenge, warmth, and authenticity. I believe in creating a safe place where clients can express their vulnerabilities and share their difficult stories in a space that is free of judgment.

I believe we are all capable of improving our lives. Many of us become stuck or overwhelmed in the process due to self doubt, insecurity, lack of self esteem , past or present trauma and losses, to name a few. Seeking therapy doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with you. Life is challenging. Sometimes we need a little help in identifying and overcoming the barriers that hold us back. Therapy can be a powerful tool in helping you gain insight and strengthen your skills and confidence in developing new patterns and behaviors that help enhance the quality of your life.

I work with adults who are seeking support with life stressors and navigating challenging situations at home and at work. Psychotherapy is my second career, and I combine my clinical training with my work experience in both non-profit and corporate settings. I welcome the opportunity to understand your story and your patterns, and to work with you to figure out the underlying issues. The point will be for you to have a dedicated place to focus exclusively on your needs, and to learn coping strategies to help boost your resilience and emotional agility.

Self Esteem Therapists
Self-esteem lives on a spectrum: Not enough self-regard (or low self esteem) can lead people to become depressed, or to tolerate abusive situations and relationships. Too much self-love (or high self-esteem), results in an off-putting sense of entitlement and an inability to learn from failure. And it's occasionally a sign of clinical narcissism. Quite the opposite of being shy or shyness, yet still on the same spectrum.
