Along with the unique ways anxiety and depression may manifest for you, I pay attention to both developmental and situational influences of trauma, interpersonal conflict, grief and loss, life changes, and the impact of chronic illness.
Whether you are an individual, couple, or family, I encourage reflection, curiosity, and learning to understand yourself and others with compassion, creativity, and calm. I welcome diverse ages, abilities, and sexual and gender identities and invite the complexities of culture, ethnicity, and race. My general approach is relational, attending to who and how you are in relationship to yourself and with others. I also enjoy working with trauma, grief, young and aging adults experiencing significant life transitions, and chronic illness.

As a Licensed Psychologist, I have come to appreciate the human capacity to change unhealthy behavior patterns, work through incredibly difficult life circumstances, and create more meaningful and fulfilling lives. I appreciate that beginning therapy can elicit feelings of uncertainty and anxiety, and I recognize the strength that it takes to begin this process. I aim to acknowledge and foster these strengths during our work together, whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, or adjustment to major life changes.

I enjoy working with clients who have suffered a painful loss and are navigating the process of grieving and work effectively with those who have lost a spouse or someone close to them, looking to create an environment of hope and healing in difficult times.
In my work as a therapist I seek to create an environment that is caring and supportive while allowing us to identify opportunities for growth and healing. My approach emphasizes skill-building, increasing insight and helping you to return to a life that is balanced, healthy and productive. I believe that with the right fit therapy can be rewarding and even life-changing. I work collaboratively with clients to reduce distress and emotional pain related to issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma and relationship concerns among others.

I also offer strategies to help anxiety, depression, anger, grief, and trauma.
Through my experience, everyone has had different needs and different strengths. However, feelings of depressions, anxiety, past experiences, trauma, or poor relationships have negatively effected individuals' ability to see their strengths and the positive in their lives. Each day is stressful and can increase these feelings, making change feel nearly impossible.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
