A lived experience in recovery has deepened my empathy, while allowing me to truly appreciate and embrace the many diverse paths from addiction, depression, anxiety, trauma, and other disorders.
Making a decision to start therapy is not only a courageous one, but an empowering one that can be truly life-changing. My approach has always been to form a collaborative partnership with my client while creating a trusting, supportive, non-judgmental, and productive environment in which we work closely together to address any concerns you may have. As someone who has practiced mindfulness and meditation for many years, I also appreciate the interconnectedness between mind and body, and embrace an holistic view of healing. I look forward to having the privilege of working with you.

My approach to therapy blends a mix of person-centered, hu manistic, psychodynamic, CBT, and feminist therapeutic modalities to best understand my clients.
Fall 2024- Accepting New Clients! Therapy is a journey of both self-discovery and growth, and a space where you can celebrate your authentic self. Working through life's many challenges can be difficult to do alone. Through therapy, working through these challenges can become easier with time. I welcome clients to bring their whole selves to the therapeutic space and work to ensure that your identities will be honored, respected, and validated. I take a holistic approach in getting to know you. Here, therapy can become a space to grow, be empowered, and be challenged to apply skills outside of therapy into your personal life.

My experience centers on working with adults on presenting issues like mood disorders, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, and anger management.
Fall 2024 - Accepting New Clients! Whether managing short-term or long-term stress, I value making a space for clients to take a moment to stop, step back from what they're doing and take a look from the outside. In a comfortable space with a supportive therapeutic relationship, clients can best understand themselves and disentangle challenges of daily life. I believe in helping clients identify what defines them as an individual, and how to best fulfill the things in life that are important to them. I also value awareness of identities relating to culture, ethnicity, gender and sex, and how they affect clients' values and goals.

In my work I focus on issues such as work stress, difficulty in dating or ro mantic relationships, navigating family dynamics, and worries about the future.
Starting therapy can be a challenge. Untangling difficult thoughts and feelings that have us in knots is never easy. Therapy can also be one of our most healing and cathartic experiences. At its best, therapy is a space to be together in the painful parts of life, cultivate strengths, and find humor in it all along the way. I offer a safe space for you to untangle those knots.

I worked extensively with depression, anxiety, trauma, stress management, life transitions, and conflict in relationships.
Accepting New Clients - Fall 2024! My approach is heavily informed by the narrative worldview. I believe in helping people understand the relationship they have with the problems that are blocking them from their preferred ways of living. Sometimes that looks like depression holding them to their beds, or anxiety stealing away your confidence, or shame interfering with your relationships. Other times, these problems can have long histories and contexts within society - the image of the “ideal man or wo man,” familial expectations of success and prosperity, or unrealistic timelines of life that people become beholden to.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
