I welcome individuals who are gay, lesbian, or bisexual, including those questioning or seeking help adjusting to leading more open, fulfilled lives with however they identify themselves.
I collaborate with adults as they heal from trauma, anxiety, loss, depression or any number of matters leaving them feeling ineffective. I will join with you to identify and transform painful obstacles, arising from past and/or present challenges, which hinder you from making healthy changes. Drawing from Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy and making frequent use of EMDR, we will journey together to access your core nature, the Self, more spontaneously. This leads to clarity and calm over challenges you face, resulting in heightened creativity and effectiveness with problem solving, relationship building, and goal attainment.

Looking within oneself to fully understand your situation is the best way to move forward, because it helps you develop a comprehensive plan and manageable, achievable goals. I am a licensed clinical social worker with more than 15 years of experience working with couples, families, adolescents, adults, and children. I graduated from Simmons College of Social Work with a master's degree, and enthusiastically work to help my clients make lasting, visible changes. Together, we can uncover new ways to make meaningful change, by identifying weaknesses and strengths and developing a plan.

I work with individuals, couples, and families to process their current challenges and develop new coping skills. Though I frequently practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy, I adapt my clinical approach to the unique challenges of the individual. I am highly influenced by my understanding of strength-based practice, family systems theories, and attachment theories. I utilize the Gottman approach (Level 2 certified) to couples counseling. I am passionate about supporting marginalized and alternative family structures.

Next Chapter Counseling is a private practice run by Mara Capello, LICSW. Here I focus on Narrative Therapy to help those working through a history of trauma, addiction, depression, or anxiety. The ideal client for NCC is someone who wants to work on how the events in their past such as abuse, neglect and violence affect their future. Narrative work helps people to understand their own story and to work to find new narratives within their history so that they can change their lives going forward.

Weekend appointments available. I work with individuals who are seeking a compassionate approach that honors their own unique intelligence, and who may be struggling to find balance and fulfillment in their lives. Many people I work with have experienced a past trauma, grew up in emotionally invalidating environments, or are presently going through a life change, or hardship. I also specialize in working with creative, nonconformist, or visionary types, who grapple with swimming upstream through society. I am trained in traditional talk based therapies, as well as Intermodal Expressive Arts Therapy. I often incorporate mindfulness.

Do you feel like you've lost your way? Maybe your use of substances or engagement in acting out behaviors has taken you so far from your values you don't know what they are anymore. Perhaps you've experienced a recent life change, and the future seems so uncertain you don't know who you are anymore. I combine a science-based therapeutic approach with a deep love of philosophy to help you work towards a fuller understanding of yourself and your world. Together, we'll use that robust understanding of yourself & your world to identify the gap between the life you have and the life you want and develop tools and goals to close that gap.

I view therapy as a conversation that puts you in touch with your inner voice and guides you in using its wisdom to make changes. I am warm and down to earth, and I use humor to create a space where you can be yourself while exploring new possibilities for your life. I offer a culturally-sensitive and collaborative approach to helping clients find joy and meaning in their lives. This can happen by navigating a life transition, resolving a relationship conflict, healing from trauma, or managing depression, stress, or anxiety.

I am currently accepting individual clients M/T/W/Th 10 am - 2 pm and waitlist spots for Group therapy starting in 2024. I work with individuals and groups. Together we engage in a process of healing. For many clients, goals include cultivating self-compassion and self-worth, moving beyond entrenched patterns, and connecting with one's self and others on a deep emotional level. It takes time, attention, energy, and strategies to improve the way we live, feel, and connect with others and it absolutely can be done.

Relationships are a quintessential part of the human experience. While they can be a source of deep hurt and pain, they also can be a source of tremendous healing and enrichment that reinforce our sense of self and our sense of belonging. Sometimes in our relationships we feel stuck or trapped in the same recurring conflict. We lose sight of what we cherish and instead zoom in on what is missing. As disconnection grows, so do our emotional walls. We need to know in our relationships that our partners are there for us, that we can depend on and access our partners when in need. That we are valued and accepted flaws and all.

Currently accepting new clients for telehealth. I’m here to offer space for a collaborative environment that we create together based around shifts you want to feel in your life. I have focused my work supporting queer and trans folks in various areas of life. Using a trauma-sensitive framework, I hope to support folks in bringing awareness to how emotions, trauma, conflict (and more) are showing up in the body. I hope to encourage curiosity, compassion, and groundedness towards an individual’s system- however that may look and feel right for you.

"I can't get no satisfaction." (Mick Jagger). I haven't met anyone who hasn't struggled with discontent at some point in their lives. "Discontent" not like annoyance when the TV remote stops working (!) - but, when it seems as if no matter how many back flips we do, we can't shake that feeling of inadequacy because we're unable to make someone (Mom/Dad/Children/Boss/Friend) happy; when we're feeling anxious, frustrated, powerless, or angry about a situation; or when we need another set of eyes to help us recognize how "good enough" we really are.
