If you’re reading this, it’s because you have the bravery to acknowledge that things are tough right now, and you may need some help. I want to acknowledge you for doing that. Everybody needs someone to talk to sometimes. If you choose me as your therapist, I promise to be in your corner. Listening deeply to others with care has always come naturally to me. I believe that in every person there is a power deep within that is working to help them to flourish and be free. As a therapist, it’s my job to help you find that part of you and to follow where it leads. It’s hard work, but it’s worth it.

Men and women who appear to benefit the most from working with me are those who arrive via their own motivation. They are clear that something is not working for them and they are open to investigating what might move them forward. Having curiosity as well as a willingness to expand their "comfort zone" contributes to a successful outcome. It is my intention to assist a client in expanding their understanding of their situation, others and themselves. Being "mindful" is more than a slogan; learning to be with things as they are or make changes adds greatly to well-being.

You are exhausted from worry and "keeping it together." You need relief. Somehow, you're getting through each day. On the surface you seem fine, but beneath that you're questioning everything about yourself. You're struggling with friendships, your identity and changes in your life that feel impossible to deal with. You're ready for relief. You’re ready to drop the struggle of needing to do everything "right." You’re ready to have someone help you figure this all out. Most of all, you’re ready to feel peace about who you are and the decisions you make.

I primarily work with teens and young adults; I appreciate and have profound compassion for the challenges presented by this time of life and the concurrent challenges for families. I can see wisdom, potential and ingenuity where young adults and their families may only see obstacles, faults or blame, and my goal is to help clients find that same trust in themselves. I help my clients access and bring forth the qualities they need to achieve their goals, whether that is addressing anxiety, emerging from depression, or exploring things that seem to be blocking forward movement in school, work, relationships, and creativity.

Although I have worked with all age groups with varying types and degrees of problem, my current focus has been in depression, anxiety, substance abuse, the elderly, life coaching and sports psychology. My orientation is humanistic with a strong background in dynamic psychology and ego theory. My approach is spiritual without being particularly religious, based on Christian and Eastern philosophies.

In my experience as a therapist, I have seen many people "right" themselves during critical and painful times of their lives. People often come to therapy in distress and confusion, unsure how to manage their current life circumstances or overwhelmed by symptoms related to emotional pain. Sometimes there are signs quietly trying to get your attention and other times it comes as a crisis. Sometimes it is others in your life that are calling for you to change. We will work together to develop clarity, identify solutions and improve your overall life satisfaction.

Regardless of the individuals and families particular difficulties, two things have struck me time after time in my work with them. First, is the rightness of their 'symptoms.' If I listen close enough and with enough openness to learn the language of their 'symptoms,' that which, at the onset, seems to have an its own private mind boggling logic, makes a great deal of sense. Second, was the level of determination and creativity people attempt to resolve said difficulties ... a determination and creativeness I attempt to match and respect during my time in their lives.

I work primarily with individuals who struggle to feel satisfied in their relationships with others as well as in their relationships to themselves, to their core values and aspirations. I find that relationships, to both ourselves and to others, lie at the root of our psychological distress. If our relationships are strained or absent, then we can easily begin to feel anxious and depressed and fall prey to addictive and compulsive behavior. I work best with clients who want to get a bit below the surface and explore other ways of relating.

I will guide you towards FEELING better and DOING better in your life–especially in your relationships! My belief and my experience shows me that we have within us deep wells of strengths, and the capacity to heal and move forward in our lives. But it sure helps to have someone in your corner: Together, we will understand your patterns (your internal patterns, and the patterns in your relationships). With my support, with new insights, and perhaps some new skills, you'll be read to make some positive changes: ...real progress, that lasts!

I approach each situation by fostering a warm environment in which I welcome you to express whatever emotions or thoughts are on your mind. Through collaboration, I aim to help you gain a better understanding of your own mind and to work towards diminishing whatever symptoms you may be feeling and improve the quality of your life.

Email to inquire. Being human is wild. We forget that fact when in the midst of our struggles and problems, so having someone help us find perspective can make all the difference. I have helped folks gain such perspective with issues around anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship issues, trauma processing, who are LGBTQ folks (including transgender folks at any point of their transition), and struggling with postpartum. No matter your struggle, though, what I offer is support and a offer to access the rest of who you are, so you are not defined by your struggle. I work with folks 18 years or older.

As a therapist, I aim to help my clients achieve and maintain the best version of themselves. My hope is that through the power of the therapeutic relationship, clients are able to be vulnerable, explore their authentic selves, and learn the tools necessary to help them cope with the struggles in their daily lives and relationships. Through the reflection on past experiences and the exploration of present thoughts, behaviors, and emotions, I work to help my clients gain insight and facilitate change in their lives.

How can I find a therapist in Berkshire County?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
