Are you a busy mom carrying the mental load of being the default parent ? Never-ending juggling of everyone’s wants and needs with very little support. No one can quite understand what is on your plate. Unspoken expectations feel unfair and unequal, but you don't complain. It doesn’t mean you don’t love being a Mom. You know you’re blessed and you love them so much it hurts sometimes. The reality is, a person can’t continue like this without the risk of falling apart. And still, you keep moving forward somehow. You’ve heard the sayings: you can’t pour from an empty cup, or you need to put your own mask on first. But, how?

Every day, we must fit into many different roles no matter who we are and these roles include employee, parent , child, student, partner, etc.
Do you ever feel like all you can do is throw your arms up in the air? Do you just want to feel like a whole person again? Whether it is work, school, finances, relationships, children or some other source of stress, an excellent way to get back on confident feet is to work with a skilled clinician such as myself. Therapy can help build coping skills to manage life challenges, gain skills to redirect misguided or distorted thoughts and process emotions in order to have a better understanding of personal needs and how to meet them.

Have you been feeling anxious, run-down, or overwhelmed about school, parenting , or family struggles? Have you started to see mood and behavioral changes in your child that have started to affect aspects of their life? Or are you struggling with feeling overwhelmed and out of control during pregnancy or after having your baby? If you found yourself nodding in agreement to any of those questions, I hope that you will reach out to start your own healing.

I believe it takes a village to raise a family, work, get a higher education; but for some of us, we don't have a village. We don't have support from the people in our lives that should be there to support us when we need it. This lack of support can make us feel isolated, misunderstood, stuck; and for those of us suffering from additional stressors such as mental health concerns, anxiety, depression, lack of work, grief, chronic illness, relationship problems, it can feel very lonely.

Life is full of seasons. Some seasons are more turbulent than others. Do you find that you’re losing sleep, or worrying more than usual? Maybe your usual hobbies have taken a backseat, or you’re spending more time alone. You may be struggling with other health issues, or have started ignoring them. Perhaps you've started using substances more often than you'd like to. Or you just don’t understand why no one “gets” you and you wish someone would just try!

*Accepting new clients for daytime hours only. Return clients welcome. Please Email.* The most important thing to me is helping people reach their individualized healthy balance of clinical, emotional and personal goals in life. I pride myself in helping people to trust their mind, body (gut) and soul for positive changes. The biggest changes sometimes can be as simple as changing one or a few small realistic detail(s) on a very consistent basis, regardless of the topic. Therapy is a journey as unique as each individual and will be treated as such.

Do you find it hard to put yourself first in your relationships? Does it some times feel that no matter how hard you try, you struggle to find joy in every day life? Self care is so important for each person and if we neglect ourselves to care for others, we may have increases in depression and anxiety. Asking for help when things begin to feel overwhelming is the first step in finding the solution. Using a combination of Cognitive Behavioral therapy and Solution Focused Treatment I have been able to help others “find themselves”, so that they can find the joy they so much deserve once again.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
