Treatment is results oriented, which means we work together at the beginning to define the changes that are meaningful to you. In a basic sense, psychotherapy is for thinking about feelings. We are all part of systems, be they

Most people who try it find therapy to be a great asset in managing personal growth, interpersonal relationships,
family
concerns, and hassles of daily life.
Perhaps you are an incredibly caring person who puts other people’s needs first. You enjoy giving your time and energy towards making others feel happy, and perhaps you’ve been playing on the sidelines in your own life. But, you secretly fear you won’t get love or respect back if you did not do so. So perhaps, you keep doing and giving and playing quietly. Truth is, this depletes you and leaves you not living the life you were truly meant to live. As head of household or business, you feel tired, stressed and perhaps not as happy as you’d like to be. And, you’ve neglected your own needs in mind, body and spirit for some time now.

My name is Sam & I’m excited you’re here! I deeply admire what it takes to make the first step in coming to therapy & the vulnerability in truly coming as you are. What's more is my belief in the importance of cultivating a strong, secure counseling partnership upheld by authenticity, rooted in empathy & remains grounded in unconditional positive regard for whoever I sit across from. In 2011, I began my devotion to a career working with children, adults & families with a wide range of strengths, needs & backgrounds in various mental health settings. My focus is in both intensive clinical psychotherapy &
family
systems counseling.

I am so very proud that you are reaching out for help. I know it is a very daunting process to find a therapist that will fit YOUR needs and YOUR situation. Have you been feeling anxious, run-down, or overwhelmed about school, parenting, or
family
struggles? Have you started to see mood and behavioral changes in your child that have started to affect aspects of their life? Or are you struggling with feeling overwhelmed and out of control during pregnancy or after having your baby? If you found yourself nodding in agreement to any of those questions, I hope that you will reach out to start your own healing.

I believe it takes a village to raise a
family
, work, get a higher education; but for some of us, we don't have a village. We don't have support from the people in our lives that should be there to support us when we need it. This lack of support can make us feel isolated, misunderstood, stuck; and for those of us suffering from additional stressors such as mental health concerns, anxiety, depression, lack of work, grief, chronic illness, relationship problems, it can feel very lonely.

Are you a busy mom carrying the mental load of being the default parent? Never-ending juggling of everyone’s wants and needs with very little support. No one can quite understand what is on your plate. Unspoken expectations feel unfair and unequal, but you don't complain. It doesn’t mean you don’t love being a Mom. You know you’re blessed and you love them so much it hurts sometimes. The reality is, a person can’t continue like this without the risk of falling apart. And still, you keep moving forward somehow. You’ve heard the sayings: you can’t pour from an empty cup, or you need to put your own mask on first. But, how?

Life often throws curveballs and learning new ways to respond to stress can be one of the most important things we can do. I enjoy building relationships and watching others develop the skills they need to successfully overcome their challenges in life. Therapeutic work can be difficult, but I've found that a good sense of humor can go a long way.

*Accepting new clients for daytime hours only. Return clients welcome. Please Email.* The most important thing to me is helping people reach their individualized healthy balance of clinical, emotional and personal goals in life. I pride myself in helping people to trust their mind, body (gut) and soul for positive changes. The biggest changes sometimes can be as simple as changing one or a few small realistic detail(s) on a very consistent basis, regardless of the topic. Therapy is a journey as unique as each individual and will be treated as such.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
