Therapy is a process of working together to help you experience new ways of generating hope and inspiration for your life. As we understand the dilemmas you face, I'll help you see how you can use your creative abilities to develop new choices for meeting them and explore new paths toward change. In my work with individuals, couples and families I offer a framework for keeping track of important ideas, meaningful life stories and useful directions. I integrate ideas from family systems and narrative therapies and phase-oriented trauma recovery.

I am looking to help people gain insight into why they may respond to the world/relationships around them in the way they do, why they are feeling the way they feel. To help people create a narrative that is strength based and adaptive, to find hope. I hope to help clients start to feel like they have more control of their conscious mind, to step out of living life on autopilot and to find safety in their own bodies. In addition to trauma informed care, I am experienced in helping adults and teens experiencing anxiety, depression, mood disturbance, emotion dysregulation, relational issues and adjustment to acute life stressors.

It can help you learn about yourself, get unstuck, heal trauma , and break cycles.
You’re ready to heal from the past and from the years worth of stress you’ve carried on your shoulders. You want to fully step into the “new you”, to be present, and enjoy your life and the people in it. Instead, you spend your days overwhelmed, stressed, and unsure of what your next steps should be. Your mind races at night, with all the things that could go wrong.

Something that I know to be true: when people feel at home in their bodies, they are better equipped for life’s challenges. I see my role as someone who can support you in finding a safe way home... perhaps home to the relationship with your body, to the feelings it holds, to a greater degree of self-acceptance, personal empowerment, and interpersonal connection. Much of my work is body-centered supporting chronic and critical illness, physical, medical, and sexual trauma , body image and dysmorphia.

If you are already working with a therapist and want to focus on a specific issue, such as a phobia or trauma , we can work together in a way that doesn't interrupt your primary therapy.
Each of us has the capacity to be fully alive. Something may be keeping you from being fully yourself, whether it is anxiety, fear, shame, guilt, difficulties with work or relationships, past traumas, illness, loss or abuse. I am here to address these obstacles with you so you can move toward living a full life. I am interested in helping you heal. When we view the obstacles compassionately as parts of you that are acting in extreme ways or carrying burdens, they begin to relax and learn to trust your Self. Then they become assets to a healthy life.

You have been trying to get to a place where you can be authentically you. But currently, trauma is getting in the way. Whether that’s trauma from hurtful relationships or trauma from dealing with the daily impact of oppression. In order to be authentically you, you realize you’ll have to heal - heal from the past, heal from the present, and heal within the systems that harm you every day.

I have experience and training working with children, families, and adults utilizing developmentally based approaches to trauma treatment from a whole person perspective.
There are many reasons people seek out therapy. For some, it may be to find clarity, discover ways to ease anxiety, improve mood or functioning, or process challenging life experiences or trauma . Seeking help and support is the first courageous step towards a more empowered sense of self.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
