We usually address topics that include anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, relationship issues, and spirituality.
I feel very fortunate to do the job that I do and I approach therapy as a real collaboration between my clients and myself. I believe that people already have inner resources needed for exploration and healing and that therapy is a place where we can work together to discover and utilize those resources. I would describe my style as warm and interactive; I ask questions, I give and seek feedback, and I often use humor. I also focus on being present and open with you, listening with full, active attention in the moment. Overall, my hope is that when you come here, you’ll feel heard, supported, and like you can be yourself.

I am a Managing Director at the New England Center for Couples and Families, working primarily with couples . I love my work, and take an active, collaborative approach with my clients. I use an "attachment lens" while working, to help people find the underlying, deeper reasons that explain why they act in the ways they do in their relationships. I believe we all seek emotional intimacy, and that, with help, we can learn how to both offer it and receive it. I am certified in EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), a highly successful, research-based approach to working with couples .

I am a "generalist" and clinically serve individuals, couples and families across all phases of development (from pre-teens and adolescents through to older adults). Psychotherapy is a process designed to increase general mental health and well-being by clarifying goals and values, strengthening psychological weaknesses, and learning more effective and sophisticated strategies to better manage emotional, social and internal (e.g. thoughts) life. Through a gentle but focused conversational style, I utilize the latest clinical research and theory to construct a collaborative and personally-tailored treatment plan that aims for symptom relief and performance enhancement.

The Feeding Ourselves approach combines psychological awareness with behavioral techniques for establishing a positive relationship to food-tools which can lead to weight loss and lasting change.
As a clinical psychologist I have over 30 years of experience treating eating disorders, body disturbances, and weight problems and am the founder and director of Feeding Ourselves. Feeding Ourselves is a comprehensive program for people who want to change the way they eat and the way they confront their weight problem. Many participants have a long history of battling extra pounds. Others may not be overweight, but suffer from compulsive over eating, binge eating or bulimia. The vulnerability they share is feeling out of control with food, and a preoccupation with eating and weight that drains their lives of valuable energy.

In my practice, I often meet with adults, children, families, and couples who struggle with their feelings, partner or family relationships, finding their place in the society, or just feeling too overwhelmed to deal with everyday life. Inability to cope with these kind of issues over a period of time often results in depression, anxiety or another mental disorder that disrupts healthy lives.

At Boston Center for Couples and Sexuality, we recognize that while all humans struggle with one issue or another, at one time or another, it can be difficult to seek help and support. Expectations that you might have of yourself or expectations that you think or KNOW others have of you can really weigh you down when life gets busy. Sometimes you know exactly what you need help with, and other times, things just don't feel right and you just aren't sure what kind of help you need. Our clinicians will listen, ask good questions, and look at problems with you to figure out how to get you back on the path where you want to be. We work with individuals and committed couples , as well as those practicing consensual non-monagamy. While communication skills and sexuality issues are a significant part of our clientele, we also work with many patients with depression, anxiety, or grief as their presenting complaint.

As a clinical psychologist and with my experience in the field, mental health is a huge component of any assessment or therapeutic relationship ; anxiety, depression, PTSD.
For many of my clients, they have spent a long time wondering if they are neurodivergent (including autistic or having ADHD) but finding an adult-focused provider is a challenge. My approach is to understand your questions, goals, and challenges, and to develop strategies both for you and for the environments you are in to best fit your needs. Having a diagnosis can be a great step toward understanding yourself more intimately and can open doors to wonderful community.

Connect with your partner like never before.
At the Boston Center for Couples and Sexuality, we help patients to increase the emotional and physical connections in their lives, whether it is with a partner , children, parents, or themselves. Our patients find that we can facilitate their ability to look at tough issues, communicate with others, accept themselves, and reach mutually agreed upon goals. You can learn how to regulate your body, be less reactive, and have empathy and compassion for yourself and others. The only thing you have control over is how you respond in a situation.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
