I am a licensed mental health counselor with experience working with adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, substance use, and trauma/PTSD. I take an empathic and integrative approach to therapy, meeting you where you are at, addressing the goals that you set for yourself, and selecting therapeutic strategies based on your needs. I'm familiar with cognitive/behavioral interventions, motivational interviewing, humanistic and existential approaches, psychodynamic theories, and harm reduction for substance use. Theories aside, I believe that acceptance, love and courage heal.

My approach to working with clients starts with treating people with respect, professionalism, and compassion. I come from a clinical background of work in community mental health clinics, private counseling centers, and college counseling settings. I work with adult individuals experiencing a variety of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, "personality disorders", PTSD, complex trauma, relational and anger problems, marital distress, and more. I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield only, and for people wishing not to use insurance, I offer a sliding fee scale if needed. For military and families, I am an giveanhour.org provider. I no longer accept Medicare insurances.

Accepting NEW client inquiries through 10.13.23. Reaching out and asking for help can be one of the most challenging aspects of starting the therapy process. If you have made it this far, you are ready to start. The majority of the clients I work with are aware of the issues they would like to focus on for treatment. With that, my approach tends to be both relational in style and goal-oriented in terms of treatment planning and working toward the best way to assist you in your personal growth and success.

We may have the impression that the experience of time is too short to grasp and adjust to the continuous flow of changes and losses occurring in life. When reporting our life stories, the task of maintaining their cohesion is often far from easy, appeasing and satisfactory. It is my belief that therapy can offer us the opportunity to revisit, expand, rewrite or add new narratives that will support our journey towards more successful identities, relationships and endeavors.

My work is centered around helping folks live a life with meaning, joy, and purpose by working together to address what may be getting in the way. As a social worker, I bring years of experience in social services and counseling, helping people address barriers at the individual, familial, and systemic level. Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked in community health settings in women’s sexual and reproductive health, giving me important insight into medical-related stresses and challenges. I work with people experiencing anxiety, OCD, chronic illness, depression, grief, self-esteem, PTSD, relational trauma, and more.

My treatment approach is integrative and personalized to my clients’ needs, focused on building a foundation of trust. I work with clients to identify underlying roots of problems and elicit existing and new strengths and resources. I prefer a holistic approach to treatment which, while based in a psychodynamic framework, draws from my specialized training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, attachment based, trauma-informed and mindfulness modalities. I work with adults ranging from young adulthood through end of life, using a culturally-sensitive approach.

Taking a step towards helping yourself can be difficult, especially if you have not sought out therapy before. Therapy is one way to move forward to identify and move through feelings and issues that are either long or short standing. Perhaps dealing with today’s stress may seem insurmountable, or you may have felt overwhelmed for many years -- moving towards helping yourself and giving yourself the space and permission to explore, forgive, and grow is a human right.

Are you experiencing attention or memory issues, brain fog, or other cognitive-based difficulties? Are these impacting your relationships, job/career success, or self-esteem? I conduct neuropsychological evaluations through comprehensive testing, after which I provide tailored recommendations based on your own relative strengths and areas of needed improvement. I also regularly see people who are recovering from brain injury (TBI/concussions, head trauma, new-onset neurological diagnoses), who might be struggling with cognitive, emotional, and/or psychological recovery.

How can I find a therapist in Allston?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
