Some concerns that bring people to me are their experience of loneliness, depression, and anxiety; feelings of worry, emptiness, and sadness; a search for connection and meaning in relationships and work; life transitions; perfectionism; self-doubt; relationship difficulties; divorce; searching for life direction and a sense of purpose; loss and grief; and exploration of identity. I work with people through collaborative, interactive conversation to help them gain insight, to develop strategies to approach their life challenges, and to feel known and understood. People describe me as empathic, genuine, and with a sense of humor.

If you yearn for a more fulfilling relationship , greater self-esteem, healing from the past, or a more enjoyable and purposeful life, it means you’re paying attention. There’s always room for growth. Perhaps you aspire to improve one aspect of your life or several areas. Maybe you feel discouraged and lost because you’ve worked hard to make things better and haven’t seen a difference, or you’re newly aware of the need for a shift in life and this is your first try; either is okay. Successful change doesn’t have to start with self-confidence or a plan. It just requires the willingness to reach out and not take the journey alone.

Impediments to happiness are worth exploring. Whether the goal is to better your life, improve your relationship , or become a better parent, change is always possible. Relying predominantly on cognitive behavioral strategies, I'll work with you to alter unhelpful patterns of thinking or behavior, and so change the way you feel. Where appropriate, a psychodynamic approach can uncover patterns influenced by unconscious thought. Many personal troubles are the result of mental processes that are hidden from us - developing insight can allow you to process vulnerable or painful feelings and begin changing those patterns.

My approach enables the client and therapist to establish a hope based, healing relationship .
With over 20 years of experience in the field of helping others, I have learned that making a genuine connection with people is the best way in which to begin the work of therapy. One of the most important skills I have to offer is to carefully and compassionately listen to what you have to say. We then go from there; when you are ready, we begin to look at how to change.

Some people struggle for weeks, months, or even years before considering psychotherapy. And it makes sense — it's hard to confide in a stranger and can take a while to find the right fit. We want authenticity and experience in a therapist but also someone relatable and easy to talk with. When couples counseling , family therapy, or child/adolescent support is needed, the search may seem even more daunting. We need a clinician with the interpersonal skills, temperament, and adaptability to forge a meaningful connection with our partners, children, and the networks who support them.

I am Certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a proven method for working with couples , individuals and families.
As humans, we are wired for connection. When we feel connected to our loved ones, not only do we feel closer to them, we do better in the rest of our lives. So, of course, when we have difficulty connecting with the people we are closest to, it is painful and distressing. We can get into cycles where the arguments sound and feel the same regardless of what they are about. And these cycles are hard to break on our own.

I treat adolescents, college students, couples and adults of all ages for mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, struggles with identity and self-esteem, and eating disorders.
Hello and welcome. It is never easy making the choice to begin therapy. Confiding in someone you don't know takes a lot of courage. With so many professionals out there, it can feel daunting and overwhelming to try and find the right person. A person you feel comfortable with, a place where you feel respected, a space of trust and safety. When I meet with a new client, my priority is to make sure you feel safe, respected, and heard. By working together, you will realize you are not alone.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
