Unfortunately my practice is often full. I use a warm and collaborative approach, and two decades of clinical experience, I have helped hundreds of adults get relief from a variety of concerns. I am especially helpful in areas of life transitions, anxiety, trauma, and loss. I will actively engage with you to understand the challenge and craft an approach just for you. Some concerns that bring people to me are their experience of loneliness, depression, and anxiety; feelings of worry, emptiness, and sadness; a search for connection and meaning in relationships and work; life transitions; perfectionism; self-doubt; relationship difficulties; divorce; searching for life direction and a sense of purpose; loss and grief; and exploration of identity. I work with people through collaborative, interactive conversation to help them gain insight, to develop strategies to approach their life challenges, and to feel known and understood. People describe me as empathic, genuine, and with a sense of humor.

Many of us experience moments that challenge our thoughts, emotions and spirit. These experiences may cause us to bury emotions which often present in unhealthy behaviors, most times outside of our awareness. I aim to hold a compassionate space with you, to nurture vulnerable parts and to foster healing.

Hello and welcome. It is never easy making the choice to begin therapy. Confiding in someone you don't know takes a lot of courage. With so many professionals out there, it can feel daunting and overwhelming to try and find the right person. A person you feel comfortable with, a place where you feel respected, a space of trust and safety. When I meet with a new client, my priority is to make sure you feel safe, respected, and heard. By working together, you will realize you are not alone.

I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor who has worked in the field of Mental Health and Substance Use disorders for twenty+ years. I am especially concerned for, not only the person who uses, but the people who have been affected by a loved one's behaviors, be it substance use or something else. Often dealing with a loved one's issues can cause significant impairment in your own life and mental health. Self-care is essential if you are going to live a sane and happy life. To help someone else, it is of upmost importance to have support and help for yourself.

As a therapist with over 10 years of experience in the field, I know how transformative therapy can be and how important it is to feel good about yourself, confident in your place in the world, and secure in your relationships. I consider that answers are within clients, not in therapists, and I am here to help you find your own answers. My approach is truly eclectic, since I have deeply studied each of various methods, including psychodynamic, humanistic, person-centered, relational focused, Jungian, and cognitive & behavioral approaches. The approach is chosen based on my client's conditions, needs, and the stage of changes at that time. I also sometimes provide information about the connections among the brain, the nervous system, body conditions, and thoughts/emotions/behaviors.

If you yearn for a more fulfilling relationship, greater self-esteem, healing from the past, or a more enjoyable and purposeful life, it means you’re paying attention. There’s always room for growth. Perhaps you aspire to improve one aspect of your life or several areas. Maybe you feel discouraged and lost because you’ve worked hard to make things better and haven’t seen a difference, or you’re newly aware of the need for a shift in life and this is your first try; either is okay. Successful change doesn’t have to start with self-confidence or a plan. It just requires the willingness to reach out and not take the journey alone.

As humans, we are wired for connection. When we feel connected to our loved ones, not only do we feel closer to them, we do better in the rest of our lives. So, of course, when we have difficulty connecting with the people we are closest to, it is painful and distressing. We can get into cycles where the arguments sound and feel the same regardless of what they are about. And these cycles are hard to break on our own.

Some people struggle for weeks, months, or even years before considering psychotherapy. And it makes sense — it's hard to confide in a stranger and can take a while to find the right fit. We want authenticity and experience in a therapist but also someone relatable and easy to talk with. When couples counseling, family therapy, or child/adolescent support is needed, the search may seem even more daunting. We need a clinician with the interpersonal skills, temperament, and adaptability to forge a meaningful connection with our partners, children, and the networks who support them.

My passion and dedication to the work is evident upon our first meeting. My positive energy stems from the belief that change is possible and I come to restore hope. I provide an open, compassionate and non judgmental space for my clients to explore their past and present lives. Collaboratively, we work together, at your pace, to obtain the goals that you identify. I believe that parenting is a journey that we undertake without a map and, at times, along the way, we all get lost. And, together, we can create a new path that feels good to you.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
