My clinical background primarily includes treating adults struggling with
anxiety
, depression, relational issues and trauma.
Many of us experience moments that challenge our thoughts, emotions and spirit. These experiences may cause us to bury emotions which often present in unhealthy behaviors, most times outside of our awareness. I aim to hold a compassionate space with you, to nurture vulnerable parts and to foster healing.

Are you struggling with knowing how to support your child's mental health? Is your child's
anxiety
stopping them from trying new things? Has your teenager lost interest in things they once enjoyed and is increasingly isolating themselves from friends and family? As a parent/guardian are you struggling with figuring out ways to help manage your child’s behaviors successfully without losing your patience? We try to teach and model ways our children could work through life's challenges, but we don't always have the tools. If you can relate to any of the above, I would love the opportunity to help.

Maturity, empathy and well developed listening skills are assets which I offer. I've been especially interested in helping women during pregnancy, and the postpartum period and resolving grief and loss from miscarriages. In addition, addressing issues of depression,
anxiety
and posttraumatic stress in men or women is especially gratifying to me. I often begin by teaching techniques for stress reduction, or in the case of lethargic depression, ways to energize the body, which help people function better quickly. Most important to me is helping people find hidden strengths and restore inner balance.

I have experience dealing with many problems including major mental illness as well as Depression,
Anxiety
and supporting people through the transitions in life.
My first priority as your therapist is to provide an environment in which you can speak freely about your concerns while I listen and reflect back to you in a non-judgemental and compassionate way. You may need new coping skills, new perspectives or a way to heal beyond old difficulties that remain unresolved. I will help you clarify what your intentions are and help you to be more compassionate with yourself during the process. One of the goals is to be more content and more at peace with yourself and in your relationships with others.

Concerns addressed;
anxiety
, mood disorder, trauma or difficult past events, substance use/abuse, grief and loss, coping with medical illness both treatment of yourself or a loved one, healthy adjustment to life transitions (job changes, new parenthood, retirement, aging, support for parents of LGBTQ+ youth).
***Please note I am currently at capacity and cannot accommodate new referrals*** I am a clinical social worker passionate about helping people find ways to their best selves. I provide a safe and supportive environment for the client in search of self-understanding. I believe people have the capacity to feel content, grateful and joyful but a lot of the time our preconceived notions of ourselves get in the way. Everyday I am amazed at people's resilience.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, experienced working with adults on a wide range of issues, including
anxiety
, depression, relationships, self-esteem, life transitions, loss and grief, and personal growth.
Impediments to happiness are worth exploring. Whether the goal is to better your life, improve your relationship, or become a better parent, change is always possible. Relying predominantly on cognitive behavioral strategies, I'll work with you to alter unhelpful patterns of thinking or behavior, and so change the way you feel. Where appropriate, a psychodynamic approach can uncover patterns influenced by unconscious thought. Many personal troubles are the result of mental processes that are hidden from us - developing insight can allow you to process vulnerable or painful feelings and begin changing those patterns.

I specialize in relationship and marriage issues, mood disorders and stress and
anxiety
problems.
The way psychotherapy is practiced has a lot to do with the mind set and life experience of the psychologist. I have been in private practice since 1980, and beyond the traditional training for psychologists, I also trained extensively in an approach known as Psychology of Mind, or Health Realization. This is a cognitive approach that is very down-to-earth but rooted in principles akin to those behind meditation, yoga and similar traditions that were developed to enhance optimal human functioning.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
