Many of us experience moments that challenge our thoughts, emotions and spirit. These experiences may cause us to bury emotions which often present in unhealthy behaviors, most times outside of our awareness. I aim to hold a compassionate space with you, to nurture vulnerable parts and to foster healing.

Impediments to happiness are worth exploring. Whether the goal is to better your life, improve your relationship, or become a better parent, change is always possible. Relying predominantly on cognitive behavioral strategies, I'll work with you to alter unhelpful patterns of thinking or behavior, and so change the way you feel. Where appropriate, a psychodynamic approach can uncover patterns influenced by unconscious thought. Many personal troubles are the result of mental processes that are hidden from us - developing insight can allow you to process vulnerable or painful feelings and begin changing those patterns.

Update November 2020: If you viewed this profile recently, please note that I've moved! In addition, currently all meetings are remote and openings are rare. I currently work with teens, young adults, and adults. Mood disorders, parent guidance, veterans, family relationships, trauma and PTSD are areas of clinical interest. Those who seek to be responsible for their own happiness, whether through acceptance or through efforts to change and grow, are the people I hope to meet.

During this time, I have worked with those struggling with a variety of concerns including relationships, parenting, identity, work and careers, depression, anxiety, trauma, school and education, gender, and cultures. Generally, the individuals, couples, and families with whom I work come to my office in some sort of pain or discomfort as they move back and forth between their real and ideal lives. The conversations we have shed light on what is happening and to try to help reduce feelings of pain and distress.

I love working with and helping people to live happier lives. In my years of experience working in the counseling field, I have assisted many people who struggle to function in their daily lives either because of a new hurdle or a life-long, mental health condition. Sometimes a person may feel hopeless, stuck, or unable to identify what holds them back. Other times, the client is in a new area of life that is unfamiliar or seems too intimidating to navigate. I strive to offer a compassionate, introspective, and collaborative setting where clients can feel free to explore the barriers that keep them from living their best lives.

Everyday you wake up with the best of intentions. It's going to be better today. You're going to feel better, get through all the to-do's and find that forward momentum that's been just out of reach. Yet, "today" hasn't quite been achievable...yet. It's hard to get unstuck when you are struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, and overwhelm. And if you don't feel supported, have had traumatic experiences, or are questioning your own identify this complicates the path forward even more. Don't keep going it alone.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
