All types of parenting, from biological parenting to adoption .
Let me pour you a cup of tea or coffee, and let’s talk. Many people see therapy as a one side conversation, with a limited ability to interact or experience one another as individuals. I can promise you, I am as real as it gets! I want to work with you to help you achieve all you hope while enjoying the process along the way. Calling a therapist can be intimidating, but I hope you will take a moment (and a deep breath) to call and see how I can help!

I have experienced issues such as child abuse/neglect, mental disorders, addictions, adoption , divorce, murder, and losing family members to the state's system.
I have spent my career working in various settings and with different populations and there is one common denominator, hope. We all are hoping for something different in our lives in one area or the next. That hope requires us to change, heal, forgive, let go, or maybe just to jump or simply believe again. The solution is easy because it requires you to just do it. But the "how" do you do it is where I come in. My experiences have prepared me to deal with a variety of issues using an eclectic approach. I have gained an understanding that there is no cookie cutter way. Everyone is unique even if they share similar experiences.

There is a phrase that says the longest distance we will travel is the 18 inches from your head to your heart. Current research supports the use of body based methods. I am a Brene Brene Brown Daring Way Facilitator. I also use a combination of music therapy, psychodrama, advanced integrative therapy, and Brainspotting. Throughout 30+ years of practice, my specialties include: issues related to transitional life stages in childhood, late adolescence, young adulthood, new parenthood, step parenthood, menopausal changes, adoption home studies, bariatric surgery consultation, college counseling, psycho-education, collaborative divorce coaching, and relationship re-framing.
While we are increasingly more connected to others via technology, we oftentimes feel less connected in our relationships. My desire is to assist you in developing genuine and authentic relationships with others and yourself. I passionately focus on this goal within the context of our individual therapeutic relationship. I promote positive change for you and your relationships by creating a reality based and positive approach to improvement in mood, behavior, and life balance. Together we accomplish this through interpersonal discussion and support with the integration of personal mission statements and goal orientation to oneself and to others.

Having worked with individuals and families to develop strategies to cope with and manage the effects of a stressful career, address trauma, grief, infertility and adoption , Post-Partum Depression, and other mental health concerns, I know that reaching out can be hard.
Therapy should be a safe place for you to work on goals, gain skills to better deal with life challenges, and/or to take back your life from the effects of trauma, depression, or anxiety. I customize my style for each individual and use evidence-based interventions to help you reach your goals. We can work together to help you find understanding, and catalyze growth and healing. I worked in the corporate world for 10+ years, and understand the struggles of managing a team, proving your worth, and finding time and ways to care for your soul.

You've tried everything you know how to do to make life manageable. Perhaps you have decided that there is no hope and nothing will ever change. You feel like somehow, all of this mess must mean there is something wrong with you. You wonder if your problems indicate an inherent weakness. Because of these fears, you find yourself hiding, wearing a mask and pretending. The weight of these behaviors have left you exhausted.

We were not created to navigate life's challenges on our own. Often times we need others in these periods in our lives. It is my honor to walk with people during these difficult periods of life and help guide them towards healing. As the counselor for Shield of Hope Counseling, I aim to see restoration for people in their relationships with God, themselves, and others.

Do you feel overwhelmed, anxious, stressed, depressed or just tired all the time? Are you struggling with behaviors, habits, or addictions that feel unmanageable? Do you have a history of unresolved hurts or traumatic memories? Are you struggling with your marriage or children? Do you long for a place where you can let yourself unravel, let the "real you" show, and be heard and supported right where you are? If any of things resonate with you, then I want to help you.

Many of us have emotions and experiences which chip away at our confidence and the ability to make positive decisions. Those who want to understand those motivations and change them will reach for help. It's not a counselor's job to tell a client what to do. The goal is to help you understand how your experiences affect your emotional health and help you create coping skills to extinguish the negative behaviors which are holding you back. I offer online appointments with HIPAA compliant videoconferencing platforms to protect your privacy.

I am a social worker and therapist because I want to dedicate my life to helping others, spread hope, fight for justice, and to pay it forward. After personal experiences with mental health treatment in my adolescence, I could not ignore the dire need for dedicated, compassionate, and non-judgmental mental health providers. Therapy can be a scary and uncomfortable process. My goal is to create a safe space for you and be your guide through your journey in becoming the person you want to be. In the words of Brene Brown, ‘If we can share our story with someone who responds with empathy and understanding, shame can’t survive.’

My goal is to work with individuals, couples, and families motivated for change to improve their overall functioning. When we go through struggles, we need someone to provide support and identify problem areas that can keep us stuck in a negative pattern. If you need to process thoughts and feelings that are causing problems in your relationships, work, or life, we can work through it and find resolution and/or peace. If you need a counselor that can provide a safe space for listening, contact me.

Suffering with stress, anxiety, sadness, difficult family relationships, or anger and not knowing where it’s coming from could feel as if there is no way you can feel better. It can feel as if you will never be “normal” and that it’s so far away from being the person you want to be. “I wish I wasn’t like this, I wish I can be like everyone else, my anxiety is controlling my life” It doesn’t have to! Change is possible, and it starts by recognizing that something needs to change in order to heal. Congrats on making it this far, now lets build your bridge that leads to change!

Adoption Therapists
In recent years, psychologists have begun to investigate how adopted children and their adoptive families navigate their lives together. In an attempt to help children who have been adopted adjust and thrive in a new home, and to understand why problems may arise, studies look at the genetic as well as both prenatal and postnatal environmental influences on the development of children who have been adopted.
