The relationship between client and therapist is essential to successful therapy. I seek to establish an empathetic, trusting relationship with clients, which provides the context for a deeper understanding of oneself and the challenges they are facing. From this relational foundation, I work collaboratively to make life changes. As life can be difficult, I minimize placing unnecessary labels on people. Often what brings people to therapy are normal reactions to unhealthy situations. Through better understanding how one's relationships, past, and environment is impacting them, people learn to engage life in new, transformative ways.
Throughout my career, I have worked with a range of issues in therapy. As someone from a biracial and international family, I have developed specialized experience working with individuals in biracial relationships, biracial couples, biracial identity development, and adjusting to living in a new culture.
I have developed a passion for listening to and understanding people's stories while developing a therapeutic relational depth with individuals from a wide range backgrounds.
In addition to over 20-years of providing therapy, I have been active in professional scholarship, training, and supervising students seeking to become therapists.

Groups
Poetry and Grief Group
Poetry can be a powerful resource to help individuals who have experienced a significant loss work through the associated emotions and life changes. Drs. Louis Hoffman will be facilitating a 10-week therapy group focusing on using poetry to help individuals struggling with grief and loss. The group format allows individuals to share about their loss and receive support from other group members. The group will begin when 6-8 individuals are ready to begin. Until the group begins, clients will be on a waiting list or may be able to be seen at a low fee by an individual therapists other than Dr. Hoffman.
