At some time or another in life, everyone feels stuck, unable to overcome some problem despite his or her best efforts. Talking therapy can be invaluable in helping one gain new perspectives on oneself . By helping clients see themselves in new, broader, more realistic and more accepting ways, I help them gain the emotional and psychological energy and understanding to make needed changes. I believe I am most helpful to people by listening carefully to what they are saying and by helping them put into words what seems hard to say or even to understand right now.
Symptoms(whether anxiety, depression, eating disorders, family arguing, etc.) provide us with clues about why it hasn’t been possible for people to solve problems on their own. When we understand more about these reasons, we can decide what changes or “tools” are needed.
I am very familiar with working with anxiety and depression (and especially as these affect academic and/or artistic performance), and with eating disorders (particularly compulsive overeating). I work in a broadly exploratory way informed by psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and existential theories.
