We all have our histories, our challenges, our personal myths. Although we cannot change the past, by finding the meaning within we can change its impact in the here and now to become our best selves. By together examining a lifetime of experiences that have shaped you, we can work together to effect positive change. I believe that therapy is not just talking about what's wrong, but also about what's right - what has helped you to survive and thrive to this point, and how you can use those strengths while developing new ones to reach towards fulfillment.
In many years of working in the field of mental health, I have found that pain and suffering are reduced, relationships are strengthened and functioning is improved through the interactive processes of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. While I take this work seriously, I leave plenty of room for humor and lightness.
My professional experiences have privileged me to work intensively with people addressing diverse issues, including depression/anxiety; bereavement/loss; childhood/adult onset trauma from abuse, war, disasters; severe/chronic illnesses including cancer, HIV/AIDS; medical problems including obesity/bariatric procedures, infertility/ART; LGBT issues; and cultural/ethnic/religious concerns.
