Clients come to see me when they’re feeling stuck. Often they’ve been to therapy, they’ve worked hard at trying to feel better, but most days feel like a struggle with painful thoughts and feelings. They find themselves caught in the same unwanted ways of reacting, which hinder them from moving forward. They’re ready for something different. Willpower isn't enough to create lasting change, you need to feel completely supported and have the right strategies. That’s why I aim to make therapy more than just a place to vent - it’s a place to actually help you get unstuck and get back into the flow of life.
Making therapy an active and collaborative process starts with the relationship. I aim to be as genuine as I’m asking you to be. I show up fully to co-create impactful relationships that balance candor and compassion. The goal is to empower you to take actions that will lead to meaningful change and to find joy in that process wherever possible.
I’ve spent 13+ years in the mental health field focusing on therapies that have been shown through research to be effective. I’m on the faculty at the University of Chicago where I teach these therapies to graduate students. DBT Group
DBT is effective for anyone with strong emotions that contribute to unwanted ways of reacting. In this 15 session DBT Group you’ll learn and practice practical tools to increase your awareness, manage painful emotions, gain control over how you respond in difficult moments, and cultivate lasting relationships with workable boundaries. The group will cover four modules - Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. This group meets in-person in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Chicago and is open to adults.
